Responsibilities
- Develop and teach a three-to-four-year sequence of woodworking, including International Baccalaureate curricula, that complement other visual arts offerings in the Arts Department.
- Teach 2 classes per term for 6 terms, and 3 classes for 1 term.
- Manage and budget for a studio and its supplies and equipment, including machine maintenance and safety checks.
- Assist students with portfolio preparation.
- Oversee student co-op workers.
- Support and showcase the arts on campus.
- Cookordinate and facilitate on-campus art shows and various regional exhibitions and competitions with other visual arts faculty.
- Foster a dynamic, interactive, engaging and safe learning environment.
- Partner collaboratively with members of the Arts department and serve as a positive team player within the George School community.
- Serve on a school committee (waived in the first year).
- Advise approximately ten students (waived in the first year).
- Perform other community contributions, which may include coaching a sport, supervising a club, social or dorm activities, or evening study hall.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Fine Arts; advanced degree preferred
- Ability to teach conceptual, as well as representational, approaches to woodworking
- Proficiency in computer-aided design software
- An openness to exploring innovative teaching strategies and emerging technologies
- Demonstrated ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning needs
- A willingness to take pedagogical risks to enhance student learning experiences
- Dedication to supporting the academic, social, and emotional well-being of students
- Strong organizational, communication, and studio management skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Interest in being a part of the community life of a boarding school
- Commitment to working towards antiracism and developing and practicing cultural competency
