About the role
Employee’s level and pay will be dependent on their level of experience, knowledge, and capabilities. The Wire Cutter is responsible for efficiently and accurately fulfilling orders for wire and cable cuts using material handling equipment and wire reeling/coiling machinery. Ensures wire and cable are stored, staged, and cut according to company standards for safety, security, accuracy, and productivity. May fill in for other warehouse roles as needed.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to a culture and environment focused daily on employee safety and a safe work environment
- Follow established Standard Operating Procedures and Environmental Health and Safety Rules; immediately address safety concerns
- Perform daily machine checks and operate material handling equipment and powered machinery safely and efficiently
- Retrieve and cut wire accurately for customer shipments; examine wire for conformance to specifications and remove defective pieces
- Fill orders efficiently and accurately; ensure outbound shipments are damage-free
- Place reels of wire onto payout spindles and thread wire through feed rolls; adjust machine controls for wire thickness, pressure, heat, and cutting/stripping length
- Stack and store merchandise in appropriate areas; stage wire cuts in designated shipping areas
- Maintain minimum standards for wire cuts in compliance with company policies for accuracy and productivity
- Report any damage to equipment, machinery, or storage racks immediately to a supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- 1+ years of wire cutting experience preferred
- Prior warehouse or distribution center experience a plus
- Certification to operate forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, and other warehouse equipment preferred
- High School diploma or GED preferred
- If required to make deliveries:
- Valid driver’s license
- At least 21 years of age
- Must pass pre-employment and annual Motor Vehicle Record review
- Must obtain verification of non-expired medical certificate as required by law within 60 days of hire
- No suspended driver’s license for traffic accidents/violations within the past 3 years
- No at-fault accidents in the past 3 years
Skills
- Knowledge of Radio Frequency scanning devices preferred
- Willingness to be trained on material handling equipment (e.g., forklift, stand-up reach truck, high-reach narrow-aisle, stand-up rider pallet jack) conforming to OSHA safety requirements
- Ability to effectively communicate with co-workers and customers
- Ability to handle basic issues and problems
- Basic mathematical skills to accurately complete job tasks
- Ability to organize and prioritize job tasks and requirements
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and work overtime as needed
- Basic computer knowledge
