Position Summary

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The Wellness Attendant maintains a supportive, positive atmosphere that welcomes and respects all individuals and provides direct leadership, instruction, and motivation for members in the Wellness Center.

Essential Functions

  • Works effectively with people of different backgrounds, abilities, opinions and perceptions.
  • Develops relationships with staff, members and community partners to advance the mission of the YMCA.
  • Enhances YMCA of the Roses membership by demonstrating the Y core values while keeping the Wellness Center a safe and pleasant environment.
  • Cleans equipment and surrounding floor area within the Wellness Center by using proper cleaning supplies and procedures.
  • Maintains accurate attendance records.
  • Reviews equipment tutorials on the Y YouTube channel and via Precor's QR codes to possess a working knowledge of equipment in wellness center.
  • Is knowledgeable of and promotes YMCA virtual and on site programs to members.
  • Wears appropriate and approved fitness attire, therefore being easily identifiable by members.
  • Applies YMCA of the Roses policy/procedures for emergency situations, including emergency and safety procedures.
  • Serves as a role model for other staff members by demonstrating exemplary job skills and behavior.
  • Attends required staff meetings, educational workshops and certifications.
  • Maintains certification by attending CEC classes and submitting required updated paperwork to the YMCA of the USA and the YMCA of the Roses.
  • Completes additional duties as assigned by the Wellness Coordinator/Director.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • At least 16 years of age
  • Obtain CPR PRO/AED/First Aid certification within 3 months of hire
  • Ability to work well with people and maintain a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of strength training and cardio equipment
  • Complete the following within 1 month of hire:
    • Living Our Cause
    • Cause Driven Tour
    • Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y
    • Wellness Center at the Y training
  • Complete the following within 3 months of hire:
    • Foundations of Listen First
    • Principles of Member Health and Wellness Work

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

  • Ability to instruct and observe health seekers with proper form and technique.
  • Ability to exert up to 25 pounds of force regularly and 45 pounds of force occasionally.
  • Ability to Climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift grasp, talk, make repetitive motions, see and hear.

Additional Requirements

  • Obtain Criminal background check, Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI fingerprint clearance.
