About the role

Meyer Utility Structures (MUS), an Arcosa subsidiary, is an industry leader in the engineering design and fabrication of concrete, lattice, and tubular steel structures for transmission, distribution, and substation applications. Responsibilities

  • Provide welding support to production welders, supervisors, and other plant personnel as the welding subject matter expert.
  • Troubleshoot welding technique and routine equipment issues.
  • Perform routine tasks such as maintaining welder continuity, welding equipment calibration, and flux oven logs.
  • Evaluate, propose, and implement welding process improvements to increase welding efficiency and quality.
  • Perform welding training on the shop floor and in a classroom setting as required.
  • Assist in qualifying welding procedure specifications as required.
  • Participate in internal improvement teams and other duties as required.
  • Oversee the daily pole school operations.
  • Maintain welder candidate training, testing, and qualification records.
  • Perform hands-on welder candidate training for the FCAW, SAW, SMAW, plasma/oxyfuel cutting, and air-carbon-arc gouging processes.
  • Conduct classroom training on welding safety, welding and cutting processes, visual weld acceptance criteria, welding symbols, drawings, etc.
  • Perform hands-on pole layout and fit-up training.
  • Provide additional on-the-job training (OJT) to production welders as required.
  • Participate in welding improvement projects and other duties as required.

Requirements

  • 3 - 5 years of FCAW, SAW, and SMAW welding experience.
  • Proficient using various weld inspection tools such as amp/volt/wire feed/gas flow meters, fillet weld gages, undercut gages, etc.
  • Able to read and comprehend welding symbols, welding procedure specifications, work instructions, drawings, bill of materials, etc.
  • Working knowledge of AWS D1.1 welding procedure specification.
  • Working knowledge of weld filler materials and base materials.
  • Possess written and oral communication skills.
  • Regular and predictable attendance, a great attitude, and an ability to work well with a team towards achieving a common goal.

Qualifications

  • AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) and/or AWS Certified Welding Educator (CWE) desired.
  • Welding-related associate degree desired.

Schedule

  • 9:00 PM – 7:00 AM, Monday – Thursday
  • 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM, Friday – Sunday

Working Conditions

  • Work environment includes production and non-production areas and plant grounds which operate 3 shifts and frequent weekend shifts.
  • This position may require coverage beyond the normal hours, shift, and on weekends/holidays.
  • Exposure to both high and low temperatures, loud noises typical of a manufacturing plant.
