About the role

The Welding Program Supervisor oversees and coordinates all aspects of the facility's welding program, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards. This role supports production goals and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all aspects of the facility’s welding program, including WPS, PQR, WPQ, weld maps, weld stencil issuance and verification, and continuity log.
  • Ensure all welding activities comply with AWS, ASME, and other relevant standards.
  • Maintain a current database of qualified welders, expiration dates, and requalification schedules.
  • Oversee welder testing, certification, and training programs to ensure workforce capability and compliance.
  • Coordinate welding audits and prepare related documentation.
  • Function as the SME for welding processes, equipment, consumables, and inspection techniques.
  • Collaborate with inspectors to monitor weld quality and adherence to procedures.
  • Drive continuous improvement in welding processes for efficiency, quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensure adherence to all company safety policies and promote a safety-first culture within the welding department.
  • Supervise welder/auditor testers and their activities.
  • Provide training and guidance to welding personnel to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Interface with other company departments to request and receive reports and information.
  • Identify, create, maintain, and assist in resolving issues related to welding processes, equipment malfunction, material defects, welds outside of procedure parameters, ensuring minimal disruption to production schedules and nonconformances.
  • Maintain and update the calibration logs.
  • Assist the Director of Quality or Quality designee with internal and external ISO 3834 audits.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Quality.

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s degree in Welding Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience may be considered.
  • Proficiency in various welding techniques (e.g., MIG, TIG arc welding, etc.), familiarity with welding codes and standards (e.g., AWS, ASME), and knowledge of welding equipment and materials.

Minimum Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in welding operations and welding standards with at least two years in a leadership or supervisor role.
  • String knowledge of welding processes (e.g., GMAW, FCAW, GTAW).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention-to-detail, with the capacity to analyze complex issues and implement/recommend effective solutions.
  • Clear and effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Competent in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel and PowerPoint and Google documents.
  • Familiarity with industry codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, etc.).
  • Proven ability to operate with integrity and manage confidential information.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, weld symbols, and technical specifications.
  • Strong leadership and people skills, with the ability to motivate and mentor team members to achieve high performance.
  • Demonstrate a high level of service and ability to be proactive.
  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision as part of a team.
  • Work well in a team environment.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • CWI certified.
  • ASNT SNT TC-1A NDE level II qualified in Visual and Magnetic Particle interpretation.
  • Safety certification (OSHA).
  • Experience with digital weld tracking or welding program management software.
  • Experience welding.

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

The position is at least 40% to 50% at a desk working with a computer and the remaining time spent in a shop environment. Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Performs other physical activities including use of fingers, sitting, stooping, bending, crouching, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions. Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading. The incumbent will be subject to inside environmental conditions.
