Position Summary
Under minimal supervision, supervises and coordinates activities of workers engaged in welding and cutting of materials and products. Applies knowledge of welding and cutting techniques, materials, equipment and fabrication requirements. Analyzes work orders, blueprints and sequence of operations required. Organizes and maintains production schedules.
Essential Functions Of The Job
- Determines staffing levels and manpower schedules based on workloads and knowledge of products and materials.
- Maintains operating schedule relative to production demands and deadlines.
- Requisitions supplies such as weld deposition materials, gas, fixtures, etc.
- Understands and supports procedures for maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Prioritizes and assigns work orders to ensure completion and timeliness of production schedules.
- Works closely with Production Planning and Control.
- May train workers in operation of equipment/machines and welding techniques.
- Inspects work to maintain specified standards and quality.
- Suggests measures to improve production methods, equipment performance and quality of product.
- Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency.
- Maintains time and production records, and analyzes departmental production performance.
- Makes recommendations for workload.
- Completes and administers subordinates' performance evaluations.
- Conducts and monitors employee meetings and training programs to enhance job performance.
- Suggests and initiates plans to motivate workers to achieve goals.
- Conducts departmental employee meetings.
- Administers weld tests in recruitment process.
- Enforces safety rules and regulations.
- Ensures department and surrounding area(s) is clean and orderly.
- May confer with other supervisors/team leaders to coordinate activities of individual departments.
- May be required to perform other assigned duties.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities (KSA’s)
- Knowledge and understanding of production welding processes.
- Previous welding experience with increasing areas/levels of responsibility.
- Emphasis on mig welding.
- Must be able to read blueprints and/or shop orders.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good human relations skills.
- Good leadership skills; able to problem solve, persuade and motivate.
- Good coordination skills, able to plan, prioritize and organize various activities.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines/production schedules.
Education And Experience
- High school diploma or GED certificate required.
- College degree or Technical School preferred.
- AWS certification a plus.
- Minimum 3-5 years previous supervisory experience directing the work of others.
Working Conditions
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines/production schedules.
- Must be physically capable of standing/working 8+ hour shift(s).
- Must be able to work days, nights, overtime and/or weekends as needed.
- May be required to travel.
