About the Role
Supports the Activity Director in assessing, selecting, organizing, and implementing activity and recreational services tailored to the individualized needs and interests of residents.
Responsibilities
- Assists in developing and delivering activity and recreational programs to promote residents’ engagement in life-enhancement pursuits and maintain or increase functioning levels.
- Encourages resident participation in group and individual activities, including arts and crafts, community outings, religious activities, intellectual and educational programs, community service, and recreational activities.
- Assists in completing activity documentation as required by regulatory standards and company policies.
- Submits supply lists to the Activity/Recreation Director and provides receipts for activity expenditures.
- Maintains a precautions and limitations list for each resident.
- Assists the Activity/Recreation Director in organizing and supervising the volunteer program, including recruiting and training volunteers.
- Supports Resident Council Meetings as needed.
- Assists in planning community activities involving residents, staff, families, and the broader community.
- Completes and posts a monthly calendar of available activity and recreational programs.
- Attends and participates in scheduled training, educational classes, and meetings to maintain certifications and meet regulatory requirements.
- Adheres to work schedules, completes assigned tasks promptly, and meets attendance requirements.
- Collaborates with facility personnel to maintain adequate services and fosters a warm, positive, and calm environment.
- Models customer service principles, treats residents and families with respect, and presents a professional image.
- Upholds and promotes residents' rights, ensures confidentiality of protected health information, and addresses resident concerns promptly.
- Reports allegations of resident abuse, neglect, or misappropriation of property.
- Coordinates communication needs, including arranging interpreters and auxiliary aids for residents and families.
- Follows safety and sanitation policies, identifies and corrects hazards, and participates in safety drills.
- Reports work-related injuries and participates in the return-to-work program as required.
- Complies with infection control measures, including testing and outbreak prevention protocols.
- Attends in-service training and communicates new policies and regulations to staff.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent (required).
- Activities Certification (preferred).
- One year of experience working in long-term care.
- One year of experience conducting social or recreational programs within the past five years (preferred).
Principal Contacts
Works closely with residents, families, nursing staff, and community resource agencies. May escort residents to outside appointments.
