In-depth understanding of how own sub-function contributes to achieving the objectives of the function. A solid conceptual and practical grounding in both the function and area of expertise, combined with a thorough understanding of the strategic direction of the function within the business. Excellent communication skills required to negotiate internally, often at a senior level, and externally when necessary. Responsible for executing functional strategy, determining implementation approaches, and accountable for end results, budgeting, planning, policy formulation, and contribution to future strategy.
Responsibilities
- Lead growth in investment revenue and AUMs with Ultra High Net Worth clients.
- Construct and oversee investment portfolios, delivering advice and guidance on markets and actionable investment ideas.
- Cultivate trusting, productive relationships with key partners throughout CPB and the wider Citi.
- Bring in new clients and investment management mandates to the bank.
- Communicate the full range of investment themes, products, and services Citi Private Bank offers, including capital market solutions, traditional, and alternative investments.
- Implement a strategic advisory approach to account planning, focusing on the investment relationship in partnership with the Banker.
- Arrange and lead regular (quarterly) investment and business reviews with assigned clients.
- Provide clients with direct access to trading desks where appropriate.
- Actively seek cross-sell opportunities in other areas of the bank, particularly lending, trust, and institutional markets solutions.
- Partner with Bankers to prospect for new investment business.
- Understand the investment needs of assigned clients (return expectation, risk appetite, time horizon, liquidity needs) and ensure positions align with client risk profiles.
- Minimize client and Private Bank exposure to risk by observing suitability policies and monitoring changes in the client’s financial condition, industry, and economic trends.
- Observe suitability and credit policies at the point of client transactions for trade approval.
- Recommend strategic and tactical asset allocation in line with CPB’s house view.
- Oversee and coordinate portfolio construction and implementation of investment mandates across internal resources such as the Investment Lab, Capital Market Specialists, and Managed Investment Specialists.
- Provide direct and active ongoing portfolio advice to assigned clients.
- Uncover needs not clearly expressed by the client.
- Advise and influence clients, overcome objections, and demonstrate confidence to close significant business.
- Lead investment discussions and presentations in one-on-one settings, small groups, and larger audiences.
- Communicate complex technical details in an easily understood manner consistent with the client’s level of sophistication.
- Demonstrate resilience and ability to thrive in a high-pressure, global, rapidly changing, and often ambiguous environment.
- Exemplify the highest standards of conduct and faithfully observe Citi’s policies and principles.
- Communicate capital markets strategies (equity, fixed income, FX derivatives, rates, credit, structured products) with clients.
- Demonstrate knowledge of volatility and correlation-driven strategies across asset classes, including pricing of options, volatility, and skew.
- Display broad execution skills, having successfully completed complex capital markets transactions and able to place trades on behalf of clients.
- Distill Citi research into coherent themes, trends, or trade ideas and interpret markets from both sentiment and valuation contexts.
- Understand valuation drivers in different asset classes (FX, equities, credit, rates).
- Appropriately assess risk in business decisions, safeguarding Citi’s reputation, clients, and assets by adhering to applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
- Effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability for those who fail to maintain standards.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience.
- Extensive experience in providing investment advice and solutions, as well as managerial experience.
- CFA, MBA, or other advanced degree a plus.
- Prior managed investment experience with a strong ability to explain and implement asset allocation and individual asset classes.
- Ability to articulate and advocate Citi and CPB’s house view and recommended investments.
- US Only: S7, S66 (or 63 & 65), and S3; Securities Industry Exam (SIE) is a prerequisite to the S7.
Education
Bachelor’s/University degree, Master’s degree preferred.
Pay
$170,000.00 - $300,000.00. In addition to salary, Citi’s offerings may include discretionary and formulaic incentive and retention awards for eligible employees.
