About the role

The Foundry Engineer supports quality and engineering initiatives by focusing on foundry process, controls, and procedures to achieve customer satisfaction through a robust quality management system.

Responsibilities

  • Develop gating and riser systems that produce high-quality castings using 3D modeling in simulation software.
  • Design tooling (patterns and coreboxes) for 3D sand-printed cores and molds in accordance with gating and riser plans.
  • Create process control sheets for molding, core making, and 3D sand printing.
  • Participate in the evaluation and implementation of emerging technologies such as 3D scanning, 7-axis mold milling, 3D sand printing, and automatic grinding systems.
  • Inspect and test products and materials using metrology equipment, magnetic particle testing, dye penetrant, hardness testing, and mechanical testing.
  • Test and report material conformance to customer requirements.
  • Create quality documentation and develop SOPs, primarily for foundry processes.
  • Analyze data and identify focus areas for process improvements.
  • Perform internal and external audits.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data; make recommendations.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and professional societies.
  • Coordinate with department heads and supervisors to resolve production planning and control issues.
  • Communicate process improvements and project status to supervisors and department heads.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining procedures, practices, and controls.
  • Evaluate and assist in implementing cost-cutting, productivity, and efficiency methods.
  • Prioritize projects and coordinate activities with internal and external departments.
  • Ensure proper execution of policies and procedures within areas of responsibility.
  • Be an active member of the internal ISO team.
  • Work safely with a goal of zero harm, promoting safety awareness through observation, auditing, and coaching.

Requirements

  • ASNT Level II nondestructive testing certification for Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) and Dye Penetrant Testing (DPT).
  • Knowledge of metal casting processes and other manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of Odyssey ERP system.
  • Knowledge of ISO manufacturing methods, procedures, and quality system requirements.
  • Understanding of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and cost management for effective manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of chemical composition, structure, properties of substances, and related processes, including safety and disposal methods.
  • Understanding of business and management principles, including resource allocation, leadership, and production coordination.

  • Technical Proficiency: Operate personal computers and use data processing, spreadsheet, word processing, statistical, database, and graphics software.
  • Language Skills: Read, write, speak, and understand English sufficiently to perform duties. American Sign Language or Braille may also be acceptable.
  • Understanding of plant equipment and production processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • ASNT Level II nondestructive testing certification for MPT and DPT.
  • ISO certification experience.
  • Experience with Odyssey ERP preferred.
  • Three to five years of relevant foundry or manufacturing experience preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
