About the role

This position involves learning and performing core making and molding activities on both large and small scales. Tasks include preparing boxes for fill, operating sand mixers, filling and ramming boxes, setting and securing change pieces, and finishing cores. Molding responsibilities include operating sand mixers, preparing jobs for fill, placing riser sleeves, ramming, striking off excess sand, and setting cores.

Responsibilities

• Place boxes on conveyors using overhead crane, forklift, or by hand.
• Prepare boxes for fill, determine the number of rods and hooks needed.
• Operate sand mixer and fill boxes as required.
• Ramp up cores, chills, and pull vanes or loose pieces as needed.
• Apply core wash and dry jobs as required.
• Paste and assemble core sections as necessary.
• Work collaboratively with the team to make cores.
• Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned.

Requirements

• No prior experience in molding and core making required.
• Equivalent to high school education plus four years of training in molding and/or core making.
• Initiative to apply various practices and follow procedures.
• Ability to work independently and efficiently with other crew members.
• Physical demands include mostly light lifting with occasional moderate to heavy lifting, standing, walking, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, and hand ramming of sand.
• Working conditions include exposure to noise, dust, heat, fumes, and sometimes outside weather conditions.
• Required personal protective equipment includes hard hat, steel toe shoes, hearing protection, and eye protection.
