Riverside County's Medical Assignment Program (MAP) offers a variety of staffing alternatives for the placement of qualified medical personnel at Mental Health, Riverside County Regional Medical Center, and Public Health Departments from Indio to Corona. Responsibilities
- Greets clients/patients at reception desk or counter; assists them in completing necessary documents and applications, answering routine questions and providing information;
- Interviews clients/patients to gather basic health related information, such as health status, living conditions, diet, residency, mobility, parenting skills, health care needs, etc.;
- Registers clients/patients using related computer information at time of appointment;
- Maintains medical charts and schedules appointments for staff;
- Performs routine medical data clerical tasks, typing, personal computer data input, filing, answering phones, etc.;
- Inventories supply needs and helps obtain medical and office supplies;
- Prepares patients for examination, including positioning, draping, shaving, and disinfecting treatment sites;
- Collections and records patient data including height, weight, temperature, pulse, respiration rate, blood pressure, and basic information about present and previous conditions;
- Provides patient information and instructions as directed by medical staff;
- Performs routine clinical procedures: taking vital signs, administering medications (oral, sublingual, topical, vaginal, rectal, inhalation) or providing a single dose to a patient for self-administration; applying and removing bandages and dressings; applying orthopedic appliances; removing casts and splints; selecting and adjusting crutches, instructing on proper crutch use; performing simple or automated visual testing, obtaining, but not interpreting, results; removing sutures or staples from superficial incisions or lacerations; performing phlebotomy for blood draw or transfusion, as directed.
Requirements
- Experience: Six months performing basic administrative or clinical duties in a physician's or dental office, hospital, health center, etc. is preferred.
- Knowledge: The causes and treatment of medical and/or public health problems and the problems facing the educationally and economically disadvantaged; basic patient care and/or administrative techniques.
- Ability: Communicate effectively orally and in writing; establish and maintain good relations with a wide range of social and ethnic groups as well as professional staff; obtain and record accurate medical information or perform routine clinical procedures, depending on assignment; follow and implement activities according to written standardized procedures; perform basic clerical tasks such as personal computer use, answer phones, filing etc.; the ability to speak fluently in a foreign language such as Spanish is a plus, depending on assignment.
Qualifications
- Education: Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalency or high school proficiency certificate.
- Licenses/Certificates: Possession of a valid Medical Assistant certificate in basic, administrative (for front office assignments) or clinical (for clinical assignments) professional specialties acquired from a school recognized by the American Association of Medical Assistants or American Society for Medical Technology. Possession of a valid certification in Venipuncture. Possession of a valid certification in Basic Cardiac Life Support/Cardio-Respiratory Resuscitation (BCLS/CPR).
