About the Role
Amentum is seeking a Water Treatment Plant Operator to support a government contract based in Jacksonville, Florida at Mayport. This role performs duties outlined in the Service Contract Act (SCA) Service Order for Water Treatment Plant Operators and may include tasks from other classifications with equal or lower pay rates.
Responsibilities
- Controls treatment plant machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption and industrial use.
- Operates and controls electric motors, pumps, and valves to regulate raw water flow into the plant.
- Adds chemicals (e.g., chlorine, ammonia, lime) to water or adjusts automatic devices to disinfect, deodorize, and clarify water.
- Starts agitators to mix chemicals and allows impurities to settle in tanks.
- Regulates water flow through filter beds to remove impurities.
- Pumps purified water into water mains.
- Monitors panel boards and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, pressure, and water elevation/distribution.
- Cleans tanks and filter beds using backwashing (reverse water flow).
- Repairs and lubricates machines and equipment using hand and power tools.
- Tests water samples for acidity, color, and impurities using calorimeters, turbidimeters, and conductivity meters.
- Adds chemicals (e.g., alum) to coagulate impurities and reduce acidity.
- Records data such as residual chemical content, water turbidity, and pressure.
- May operate portable water-purification plants to supply drinking water.
- May purify wastewater preparatory to pumping into rivers, streams, or city mains.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Two years of advanced education or equivalent specialized training preferred.
- Two years of journeyman-level experience in this trade.
- Ability to use hand and power tools required for job duties.
- Must pass background checks and drug testing as required by the contract.
- Must obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (U.S. Citizenship required).
Qualifications
Class “C” State of Florida D.E.P. Water Operator License or better.

Pay
$37.80 per hour.
