Summary
Operates all equipment and monitors all systems, generating, controlling, and delivering utilities to the TMC campus, and may monitor domestic water distribution and treatment programs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Adheres to and supports team members in exhibiting TMCH values of integrity, community, compassion, and dedication.
- Adheres to TMCH organizational and department-specific safety and confidentiality policies and standards.
- Examines machinery or mechanical equipment and identifies reasons for malfunction; adjusts functional parts of mechanical devices as necessary.
- Fires boilers, operates auxiliary equipment, and controls the generation of a continuous supply of steam for heating, hot water, and process operations.
- Maintains fuel supplies and schedules deliveries as needed; ensures adequate levels of supplies, materials, and equipment and advises when reordering is necessary.
- Prepares boilers and related equipment for state and insurance inspections.
- Reads meters, gauges and automatic recording devices at specified times to check for proper operating conditions.
- Records equipment temperatures, hours in operation, fuel consumption, water levels, pressure and voltage.
- Tests boiler and cooling tower water samples; assigns proper chemical treatment to boiling and cooling waters.
- Tests emergency generators and logs reactions.
- Ensures complete and proper logging of files and records and required cost computation of time spent, materials and supplies used for each completed requisition or work order.
- Ensures that safety procedures are observed.
- Installs new equipment and systems, and repairs and maintains current equipment and systems as needed.
- Maintains compliance with codes and regulations.
- Cleans and repairs boilers, blow tubes, and discharge sediment; regulates feed water and condensation pumps and lubricate pump equipment.
- Inspects parts for any changes in dimensions utilizing rules, calipers, micrometers or other appropriate tools.
- Installs repairs and replaces piping and fittings for oil, gas, water, steam, air, heating and plumbing lines and systems for equipment such as compressors, pumps, and boilers.
- Repairs and overhauls pumps and heat exchanges; removes and replaces coils; replaces valves and associated equipment on steam systems or boilers.
- Extracts data from sources such as blue prints, engineering orders, reports and specifications.
- Coordinates planning, scheduling, and implementation of activities to accomplish work in cooperation with other sections of department and/or other hospital departments and services.
- Coordinates preventive maintenance with emergency and repair work activities.
- Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment using testing instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, and voltmeter, testing lamp or growler.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
Water Treatment
- Treats and monitors water systems for all hospital chillers, cooling towers, heating hot water loop, chill water loop, TES Tank, and satellite cooling and heating systems.
- Maintains records of chemical use, water use and budget; maintains chemical pumps used for treatment; and trains operators on procedures in water testing and optimizing water usage.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Associate's degree, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
- Experience: Two (2) years of related plant operation and maintenance experience; five (5) years of water treatment experience for treatment position.
- Licenses/Certifications: TMC Tug License required within 30 days of hire and must be renewed annually. For Treatment: preferred a grade I or II Distribution System Operation Certification and Backflow Prevention Assembly Tester Certification.
