Essential Functions
- Inspects and monitors SCADA systems, pumps, chemical feeders, laboratory equipment, meters, and gauges to determine status of various functions of the plant.
- Removes solids from treatment units and cleans/backwashes filters as needed.
- Collections samples required for laboratory analysis; and conducts water analysis tests to ensure and maintain water quality.
- Maintains the efficiency of plant and laboratory operations, including maintenance of equipment, pumps, hoses, filters, and machinery, testing, quality control, and record-keeping procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Lubricates and changes oil in electrical motors, water pumps, gear boxes, and drive units; performs periodic routine maintenance on plant equipment.
- Handles various chemicals necessary for water treatment.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes necessary repairs on mechanical equipment and related components.
- Performs equipment and laboratory preventive maintenance duties.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Surface Water Production as well as Water distribution operation, including piping, sources of supply, water quality, disinfection, water-related electricity, and the operational principles of pumps and motors.
- Proper methods and techniques used in operating, cleaning, repairing, and maintaining water systems equipment.
- Basic mechanics and understanding of basic mathematical formulas.
- Equipment, methods, and techniques appropriate to department assignment.
- Operating water systems and laboratory equipment in a safe and capable manner.
- Operating and working around machinery, heavy equipment, chemicals, and moving equipment.
- Installing, repairing, and maintaining of water/water systems equipment.
- Recognize unusual or dangerous operating conditions and make sound judgments within established guidelines.
- Work effectively independently and as a member of a crew.
Education, Experience, Certificates, And Licenses Required
- A High school diploma or GED equivalent required, and any experience in water or water utility systems preferred.
- Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- A Valid Class C Texas motor vehicle driver license and the ability to maintain a satisfactory driving record.
- Ability to obtain one or more of the following as directed by assignment:
- TCEQ Water Treatment License Class D within six (6) months.
- TCEQ Water Treatment License Class S.W.C within two (2) years.
- TCEQ Water Treatment License Class S.W.B within five (5) years.
