Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Carry out routine water testing and document test results.
- Monitor all charts, gauges, digital screens, and other operational equipment.
- Calculate chemical feed rates, calibrate feed equipment, and adjust rates based on lab tests or supervisor instructions.
- Perform and record routine and special installations, maintenance, and repairs of all equipment and grounds, maintaining good housekeeping.
- Analyze system parameters and alert when additional assistance is needed (e.g., main breaks).
- Maintain appropriate chemical inventory levels.
- Operate water treatment plants, wells, and ancillary equipment using SCADA control interfaces.
- Take direction from company water quality personnel regarding water sampling, scheduling, handling, and similar matters.
- Carry out basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, pumping, and other equipment and facilities associated with water production, treatment, and control.
- Utilize digital tools, computers, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and software to communicate and perform and record work.
- Occasionally take on various shift assignments and on-call duties.
- Perform all job responsibilities and duties in compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and security laws, rules, policies, programs, and training.
Qualifications
- A high school diploma or GED is required.
- Previous experience in water production and/or water treatment operation roles is preferred.
- Ability to read, interpret, comprehend, and communicate technical manuals, engineering plans, and other relevant documents.
- Basic knowledge of water system operations, basic construction, and plumbing applications and practices, including disinfection, disinfection byproducts, and corrosion control.
- Ability to perform basic troubleshooting, installation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical, electrical, pumping, and other equipment and facilities associated with water production, treatment, and control.
- Good communications skills, both oral and written.
- Good organizational, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with business office computing systems.
- Fine motor dexterity is required occasionally for certain tasks.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and an Idaho Drinking Water Treatment Operator - Class II license.
Physical Requirements
- Transport up to 80 lbs.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Enter confined spaces.
- Climb stairs and ladders.
- Frequent standing and walking.
- Lift/carry up to 51 lbs. occasionally.
- Push/pull up to 94 lbs. occasionally.
- Frequent crouching, kneeling, stooping/bending, twisting, and reaching at trunk level and above shoulder level.
Work Environment
- Indoors on concrete.
- Frequently outdoors in all kinds of weather.
- Occasionally at heights.
- Frequent driving for route reading and routine oil changes/maintenance.
