Water Systems Specialist
About the role
The Water Systems Specialist supports the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and improvement of process water systems used in sterile manufacturing. This is a hands-on technical role for someone with strong mechanical aptitude, familiarity with water treatment or utility systems, and a willingness to learn pharmaceutical water-system requirements.
Responsibilities
- Support day-to-day operation of process water generation, storage, and distribution systems.
- Assist with system start-up, shutdown, sanitization, and routine checks.
- Help ensure systems are operating reliably and in accordance with site procedures.
- Support sampling, review, and trending of water quality and operating data.
- Aid in monitoring key system parameters such as conductivity, TOC, temperature, flow, and related instrumentation.
- Identify abnormal conditions, equipment issues, or performance trends and escalate as needed.
- Assist with troubleshooting system, instrumentation, and operational issues.
- Cook up with Maintenance and Engineering to support preventive maintenance, calibration, and corrective repairs.
- Maintain water system equipment and critical instrumentation in a reliable operating condition.
- Provide input on work orders, spare parts, and maintenance planning.
- Assist with SOPs, work instructions, logs, and related documentation.
- Support training of site personnel on basic water system operation and good documentation practices.
- Maintain accurate records of monitoring, maintenance, and operational activities.
- Identify opportunities to improve system reliability, performance, and ease of operation.
- Support investigations, follow-up actions, and implementation of approved improvements.
- Learn and apply pharmaceutical water-system requirements with support from site leadership and quality personnel.
Qualifications
- Experience with water treatment, process water, utilities, RO/DI, purified water, or similar systems.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability.
- Familiarity with pumps, valves, instruments, tanks, skids, and distribution systems.
- Experience in manufacturing, utilities, maintenance, or technical operations.
- Ability to interpret trends, complete documentation, and follow procedures.
- Experience in pharmaceutical, biotech, food, beverage, or other regulated environments is a plus.
- Experience with USP water systems, WFI, or ozonation is a plus but not required.
