Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and install campus water distribution, irrigation, plumbing, natural gas, and related utility systems.
- Diagnose and repair leaks in domestic hot and cold-water systems, distribution lines, and associated infrastructure.
- Install, repair, replace, and maintain plumbing fixtures and components, including toilets, urinals, faucets, hose bibs, drains, valves, and piping systems.
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair domestic hot water systems, water heaters, and related equipment.
- Operate, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair irrigation systems, including sprinkler heads, valves, controllers, timers, clocks, and backflow prevention devices.
- Maintain irrigation system performance and implement efficient watering schedules and water conservation practices.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain water, natural gas, and utility distribution systems to ensure reliable operation.
- Inspect, test, install, repair, and maintain backflow prevention devices in accordance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards.
- Repair and maintain water pumps, pressure systems, and related mechanical equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance inspections and identify aging, deteriorating, or failing infrastructure components.
- Recommend and implement proactive maintenance, repair, and replacement strategies to improve system reliability, operational efficiency, and asset longevity.
- Respond to emergency water, plumbing, irrigation, natural gas, and utility system failures and perform corrective repairs as necessary.
- Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, technical drawings, specifications, and utility maps to complete maintenance and installation projects.
- Collaborate with contractors, vendors, and Facilities personnel on maintenance, repair, renovation, and construction projects.
- Maintain an inventory of commonly used repair parts, materials, supplies, and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance activities, repairs, testing, and system performance.
- Ensure proper care, maintenance, and safe operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles assigned to the position.
- Promote and support workplace safety, environmental stewardship, and sustainability initiatives.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with applicable federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and safety standards.
- Participate in after-hours, on-call, and emergency response activities as required.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid New Mexico Journeyman Plumber License and a high school diploma or GED.
- Minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in commercial, institutional, industrial, or municipal plumbing, water distribution, irrigation, utility systems maintenance, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated expertise in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, repair, and operation of water distribution, plumbing, irrigation, and related utility systems at the journeyman level.
