Water Resources Engineer – Senior Level (Hybrid)
About the role
Barr is seeking a senior water resources engineer to join our growing Salt Lake City team. In this role, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams to provide project and task management, technical leadership, and engineering support for a diverse range of water resources projects. Project work may involve hydrologic and hydraulic analysis, dam safety and reservoir systems, stormwater planning and flood control, and preparation of technical reports, plans, and specifications.
The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, proven task or project management skills, and a willingness to work cooperatively with project team members in a high-energy environment that encourages self-initiative.
This position is based out of Barr's Salt Lake City, Utah, office and offers a hybrid work arrangement, splitting time between the office and a home office.
Responsibilities
- Apply technical knowledge to water resources challenges such as precipitation and flooding data analysis, urban and rural hydrologic analysis, open channel and pipe flow analysis, hydraulic structures, bank stabilization and stream restoration, floodplain analysis and mapping, analysis of water supply and aquifer storage, hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches, and commonly used software.
- Prepare technical reports, plans, and specifications and work with clients, permitting agencies, and public officials.
- Lead project teams in planning, coordinating, and executing projects, ensuring project milestones are met and providing regular updates to project team members and clients.
- Develop and maintain client relationships; develop proposals and perform business development activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering with an emphasis on water resources.
- 15 years of related water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology and hydraulics.
- Experience with hydrologic and hydraulic modeling approaches and commonly used software.
- Experience with proposal development, client management, and business development.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship by Barr, now or in the future.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality.
- 16+ years of water resources engineering experience with a focus on hydrology, hydraulics, and/or water quality.
- Experience with Western water rights.
Pay
Anticipated range of $115,000–$130,000 per year. Compensation will vary based on relevant experience, education, skill level, and other compensable factors. Employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
