Water Resources Consultant – Senior Level – Mining Focus (Hybrid/Remote)
About the role
Barr is seeking a senior water resources consultant with a focus on mine water management to join our team as a mine water practice lead.
Responsibilities
- Leading technical analyses related to water balance modeling.
- Hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and engineering studies.
- Interacting with, coordinating with, and potentially leading or managing multidisciplinary project teams.
- Mentoring junior staff through project work.
- Advising clients on mine water management strategies and alternatives analyses.
- Performing business development, such as giving conference presentations or writing proposals.
Requirements
A hybrid work arrangement may be considered for this position. A hybrid work arrangement refers to splitting time worked between a Barr office and a home office. This position can be based out of the following Barr offices: Denver, Colorado; Duluth, Hibbing, or Minneapolis, Minnesota; Bismarck, North Dakota; Albuquerque, New Mexico; or Salt Lake City, Utah.
A remote work arrangement may be considered for this position. A remote arrangement refers to working primarily from a home office. Remote arrangements will be considered based on candidate qualifications, local regulations, and Barr’s needs.

Qualifications
- Education: bachelor's degree in math, science, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience developing water balance models, including spreadsheet-based and advanced simulation tools.
- Experience with design of surface water impoundments, such as process ponds, water supply dams, and reservoirs.
- Statistical analysis of hydrological data, including techniques such as cumulative frequency analysis.
- Experience advising clients on mine water management strategies and alternatives analysis and a track record of building and sustaining client relationships.
- Developed skills in probabilistic analysis or modeling, uncertainty analyses, and/or Monte Carlo analyses to inform and complete risk assessments.
- Software: experience working with hydrologic, hydraulic, and water quality methods and modeling tools.
- Driver’s license: possession of a current, valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.

Pay
Ancillary to the compensation range of $110,000–$160,000 annually, employees in this position may also be eligible for a discretionary cash bonus based on team and individual performance.
