Water Distribution Mechanic - Public Utilities

About the role

Brunswick County Public Utility is currently accepting applications for a Distribution Mechanic to join our Water Distribution team. Brunswick County Public Utility provides water services to nearly 67,000 metered customers across a large service area. The Distribution Mechanic works as part of a crew to perform a variety of both manual labor and specialized skilled work to assist in the maintenance and operation of the potable water distribution system.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and operate the potable water distribution system
• Monitor water quality parameters, tank levels, pump station settings and system hydraulics
• Respond to water quality and water pressure concerns
• Perform valve maintenance, hydrant flushing, new line inspections, and main line repairs
• Operate and maintain surge tanks, chlorination, and chlorination facilities at pump stations
• Perform construction work, preventive maintenance, and operation of pumping equipment, control valves, utility lines, and storage facilities
• Work on an on-call rotation that requires responding to emergency calls outside of normal business hours

Requirements

• High school diploma (or GED)
• Experience in water distribution
• Valid NC or SC Driver License
• NC Water Distribution Operator Certification preferred
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A desirable

Qualifications

• Physical ability to operate machinery and equipment including motor vehicles, pumps, tractors, lawn mowers, generators, water pumps, etc., and mechanic's hand tools
• Ability to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
• Ability to walk, stand, stoop, reach, lift, and bend
• Ability to work in confined areas
