About the role
Brunswick County Public Utility is seeking a Utility Plant Maintenance Mechanic to join our team. We provide wastewater services to nearly 30,000 metered sewer customers across a large service area.
Responsibilities
- Repair, rebuild, disassemble, reassemble, install, test, operate, and troubleshoot various machines and equipment (hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical components)
- Maintain and assist in the operation of wastewater treatment equipment (spray irrigation, dispersal site maintenance and operation, etc.)
- Document equipment repairs and inspections
- Aid in maintaining parts inventories, tool inventories, and preventative maintenance program documentation
- Respond to emergency repair calls as required
Requirements
- High school diploma (or GED) and experience in a water/wastewater treatment or other industrial facility
- Valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver License
- NC AWWA Maintenance Technologist certification preferred
Qualifications
- Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including motor vehicles, backhoe, 3-ton trucks, tractors, numerous pumps, tractors, lawn mowers, generators, water pumps, etc., and electrician and mechanic hand tools
- Must be able to exert up to 75 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects

- Mechanically inclined
- Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgement
