From delivering safe drinking water and treating wastewater responsibly to developing sustainable water supplies and protecting lives and property through flood control, your work will directly support public health, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure resilience.

This position is based in HDR’s Denver, CO office and focuses on designing municipal pumping stations and pipelines to convey raw water, drinking water, and wastewater. You will collaborate with a talented team to compete for and execute technically complex engineering projects serving municipal water suppliers across the front range.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with design team members to coordinate integration of designed components into larger projects (in-office work expected at least four days per week).
  • Perform hydraulic calculations for pump selection and pipeline sizing.
  • Conduct alternatives analysis for pipeline route selection and/or pumping station site selection.
  • Prepare design reports with supporting mapping and calculations to document the design process and obtain agency approvals.
  • Develop plan and profile drawings for water transmission/distribution and sewer interceptor/collection pipelines.
  • Design equipment layout and site plans for water and wastewater pumping stations.
  • Coordinate with CAD and Civil 3D technicians throughout drawing development.
  • Develop technical specifications based on HDR master specifications and client requirements.
  • Perform construction phase engineering tasks, including responding to RFIs, submittal review, construction observation, and supporting engineering activities.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in preparation of construction drawings and specifications for water/wastewater pipelines and/or pumping stations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Design experience in pressure and gravity flow system hydraulic calculations, including pipeline sizing, wall thickness, and system head curves.
  • Experience evaluating alternative pump types and sizes for lift stations and pump stations, including preliminary equipment layouts.
  • Construction experience for office engineering services, including submittal and shop drawing review, RFI responses, and work change directives.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD to support design investigations.
  • Experience with ArcGIS and Google Earth.
  • Strong technical writing and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion.
  • Commitment to active participation in our employee-owned culture.

Preferred qualifications include mentoring entry-level engineers and participation in professional societies (AWWA, WEA, ASCE, etc.). Local and national conferences may be part of your yearly work itinerary.

Pay

Expected compensation range for this position in Colorado: $82,544 – $117,920, depending on skills, experience, education, and geographical location.

Full-time, regular position.

United States-Colorado-Denver (primary). Other locations include Durango, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, Grand Junction, and Englewood, Colorado.
