Project Engineer — Conveyor Division

About the role

The Project Engineer will oversee all engineering and technical aspects of assigned projects to ensure the highest level of accuracy and quality. This position will focus on conveyor engineering design, layout, and detailing, working closely with the project manager and superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Supervise a team of engineers and designers, providing daily tasks and assignments.
• Develop and maintain project schedule timelines, motivating team members to meet deadlines.
• Complete tasks within project schedule deadlines, including working overtime as necessary.
• Provide training and guidance to junior engineers to perform their job tasks.
• Provide weekly project updates to management.
• Perform engineering calculations for drives, shafts, cylinders, and bearings.
• Provide input to drawing development and technical support to the engineering team.
• Provide a working solution to technical issues in a timely manner.
• Check drawings or designate a checker within the group to ensure drawings are accurate before sending to the shop or sub-fabrication source.
• Create AutoCAD conveyor layouts meeting customer JPH requirements.
• Understand and coordinate basic structural/header steel design with the customer and structural engineering service provider.
• Work with the P.E. for state-certified drawings of all structural and civil drawings.
• Provide and create ABM’s, Work Orders for the shop and purchasing.
• Answer questions from purchasing and the shop regarding orders.
• Track project requirements pre/post award, prepare and submit project submittals.
• Work with the project manager on-site as required.
• Assist the project manager with tasks as needed.
• Provide chain pulls on CP Plus with drive balancing and drive dropout capability based on customer requirements.
• Provide FMEA and FEA documentation to outside sources per customer requirements.
• Maintain knowledge of the latest specifications for the customer and stay updated on revisions.
• Work with and monitor engineering sub-contractors selected for the project.
• Provide on-site installation and start-up assistance as required, working with the project manager and superintendent to support field installations and troubleshoot issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience with 10+ years of automotive conveyor work experience, or 15+ years of direct automotive conveyor work experience including supervisory duties.
• Experience working independently and in a team environment.
• Ability to prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment and in a timely manner.
• Strong background in automotive conveyor systems, preferably Power & Free and Skid conveyor systems.
• Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with a professional, positive attitude.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Autodesk Inventor software packages.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word & Excel; ability to create clear notifications and RFI’s.
• Able to identify and manage scope of work changes and create detailed change order requests.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
