Wastewater Project Designer

IMEG is hiring a Wastewater Project Designer in Rock Island, IL to lead design efforts for low to moderate complexity projects and collaborate with senior staff on larger, high-complexity projects. This role supports municipal, transportation, public works, and wastewater-related infrastructure, working closely with a team of engineers and consultants to deliver engineering solutions.

About the Role

This position involves leading design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer, working within project budgets, training and mentoring staff, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project goals and client expectations. The role aligns with a team that combines water and wastewater experience with broader civil design expertise.

Responsibilities

• Direct and train Civil Design Technicians in preparing reports, exhibits, plans, specifications, and permit applications required by the project’s contractual scope.
• Lead analysis and design efforts for low to moderate complexity civil site projects.
• Utilize engineering software and tools to create detailed designs, specifications, and calculations according to code requirements and IMEG standards.
• Complete and oversee permit applications in coordination with the team, client, and reviewing jurisdiction.
• Oversee projects through bidding and construction administration.
• Interact with clients to gather project requirements, communicate technical information effectively, and build professional relationships.
• Support consulting project execution as part of a project team.
• Lead project planning, budgeting, and scheduling to meet deadlines and objectives.
• Document client design decisions and instructions, and monitor project progress as related to percent complete and fee expended.
• Analyze engineering problems and collaborate with senior engineers and consultants to develop practical and efficient solutions.
• Stay up to date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in civil engineering, and contribute to research, development, and innovation efforts within IMEG.
• Prioritize safety and regulatory compliance, interpret state and local design criteria, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and identify potential project problems.

Requirements

Education Qualifications (one of the following):

• Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Civil Engineering, or equivalent.
• Associates degree, or certificate, in utilizing Autodesk Civil 3D or equivalent software tools or engineering (preferred).

Experience Qualifications (one of the following):

• 3 years of experience minimum (4 preferred) in the building design consulting industry.
• 7 years of experience minimum (8 preferred) in the building design consulting or construction industry.

Skills

• Knowledge of industry-standard engineering software, primarily Civil 3D.
• Proficient with pipe networking and road corridors.
• Proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications.
• Strong technical and analytical skills, including proficiency in civil engineering principles.
• Ability to train and mentor less experienced staff.
• Able to lead teams using industry-standard software for civil engineering analysis and design.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written form to individuals or groups.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
• Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
• Eagerness to adapt to new challenges.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Ability to travel up to 10% with occasional overnight stays.

Preferred Qualifications

• Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification.

The Municipal and Transportation-focused civil team serves Rock Island and Macomb, IL, specializing in roadway rehabilitation, MFT administration, construction administration, bridge, culvert, water, and wastewater projects alongside land development and ADA improvements. The team is active across multiple Illinois municipalities, including Andover, Silvis, Geneseo, and Carbon Cliff. Pay

State of Illinois Salary Range: $77,000 - $98,000. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay will be based on experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. Other rewards may include annual bonuses and stock ownership options.

Schedule

Full-time hybrid with up to 10% travel.
