Waste Treatment Manager

About the Role

The Waste Treatment Manager is directly responsible for the equipment, operations, and controls of the facility's wastewater and process water systems. This role involves managing a team that operates the wastewater treatment and process water treatment systems, ensuring compliance with state and OSHA requirements, and maintaining safety protocols and practices.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the overall direction, training, and evaluation of wastewater treatment personnel, including interviewing and hiring employees.
• Plan, assign, and direct work, tasks, and preventative maintenance in the department.
• Evaluate and prepare environmental and regulatory reports.
• Ensure the overall operation, safety, and regulatory compliance of the wastewater and process water systems.
• Train all personnel in associated equipment and safety practices.
• Manage performance of the team with engagement-centered leadership.
• Apply knowledge of OSHA regulations, federal and state environmental regulations, chemical process safety, and industrial wastewater treatment concepts (e.g., chrome reduction, cyanide destruction).
• Oversee ion exchange processes related to recycle systems and RO membrane systems.
• Utilize atomic absorption spectrophotometer for analyzing metals in effluent.

Requirements

• Chemical processing or equivalent experience/education combination.
• Minimum of 7 years of related experience (e.g., manufacturing engineering) or commensurate experience with related products.
• Training in general safety and quality system awareness.
• Supervisory/management experience.
• Project management experience.
• Wastewater Grade 5C License or above (preferred).
• First Aid/CPR/AED certification.
• 24-hour HAZWOPER certification.
• Security background (desirable).

Supervisory Responsibility

This position manages all employees of the department and is responsible for performance management and hiring. There are two to six direct reports.

Schedule

This is a full-time, salaried position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.
