Responsibilities
- Oversee and guide daily shipping and receiving operations
- Coordinate with carriers (LTL, parcel, freight) for timely pickups and deliveries
- Resolve shipping discrepancies, damages, claims, and delivery issues
- Maintain accurate shipping documentation (BOLs, packing slips, system transactions)
- Assign and prioritize work across receiving, inventory, warehouse, and shipping functions
- Ensure proper product handling, storage, and material flow
- Monitor and drive on-time shipment performance and inbound delivery accuracy
- Manage department productivity, staffing, capacity, and overtime
- Track and report operational performance, including KPI reporting
- Enforce company policies and drive cross-training and continuous improvement
- Lead, coach, and develop team members
- Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and administer corrective actions as needed
- Establish and maintain cross-training plans to support operational flexibility
Requirements
- High School Diploma (or G.E.D.) or equivalent in Business Administration
- Hands-on experience with shipping and receiving operations
- Experience coordinating with carriers, managing shipments, and resolving delivery issues
- Experience in manufacturing or high-volume warehouse environments
- Exposure to Lean, JIT, or Demand Flow Manufacturing
- Management experience in warehouse/logistics (3-5+ years)
- Supervisory experience managing 5-10+ employees
- Proven ability to lead and develop employees, drive productivity, and continuous improvement
- Experience managing complex, high-value inventory
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills
- Proficiency using ERP/MRP systems (SAP preferred)
Qualifications
- Strong working knowledge of shipping & receiving operations, carrier management, and freight coordination
- Understanding of transportation documentation (BOLs, ASN, etc.)
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, JIT, or Kanban systems (preferred)
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including building and analyzing KPI reports using pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and data tracking tools
