Warehouse Supervisor

About the Role

This hands-on position reports to the Plant Manager and is responsible for leading all warehouse operations safely, accurately, and on-time. The Warehouse Supervisor leads by example, maintaining a positive, team-empowered environment where beneficial changes to departmental operations, safety, and processes are understood and embraced. Multi-departmental communication with HR, other operations leaders, and Sales is necessary to address pain points and contribute to solutions.

Responsibilities

• Be a resident expert in all warehouse operations (shipping, receiving, inventory control).
• Create and use Leader Standard Work (LSW) for daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
• Ensure the execution of processes resulting in shipping finished goods safely, accurately, and on-time to both internal and external customers.
• Embrace a data-driven approach to allocating resources and completing tasks.
• Create and post the weekly warehouse schedule.
• Act as a daily mentor to warehouse team members by encouraging good behaviors and coaching underperforming behaviors.
• Lead warehouse huddles to communicate and discuss safety, quality, productivity expectations (KPIs), and general current events with warehouse staff.
• Actively participate in weekly “check-ins” with the Plant Manager to clearly communicate pain points, success stories regarding KPIs, staffing, team member performance, interdepartmental/company concerns, and continuous improvement opportunities.
• Help create a safe working environment and support facility safety initiatives:
  • Understand and support the facility HACCP plan.
  • Assist with the creation and training of Job Instructions (JI) and Job Safety Analysis (JSA).
  • Assist (and sometimes lead) employee and food safety corrective action investigations.
• Lead the communication effort for the warehouse with:
  • Transportation regarding outbound delivery routes, vendor pickups, drayage, and Fortune product transfers.
  • Production regarding raw material inventory and pertinent incoming shipment information.
  • Sales regarding product outs, shorts/allocations, and other customer satisfaction considerations.
  • Purchasing concerning incoming PO issues, vendor pickups, and Fortune product transfers.
  • HR regarding timeclock and general personnel discussions.
  • Maintenance/Sanitation ensuring the smooth operation of warehouse spaces and equipment.
• Collaborate with other facility leaders, embracing cross-training opportunities.
• Lead inventory control activities.
• Participate and sometimes lead hiring/firing decisions.
• Process daily/weekly shift payroll hours and vacation requests.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• 2+ years of foodservice warehousing experience.
• Previous leadership experience preferred.
• Good communication skills in English (written and verbal).
• 2- or 4-year degree preferred, but not required.
• Basic understanding and ability to use MS Office Suite.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operation and maintenance instructions, and supervising instructions.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours when needed.

• Lifting: Raising objects from a lower position to a higher position or moving objects horizontally. Requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
• Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palms.
• Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, including conveying detailed or important instructions accurately, loudly, or quickly.
• Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels with or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication.
• Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
• Visual Acuity: Required for preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, visual inspection (small defects, small parts, machine operation), using measurement devices, and/or assembly/fabrication of parts at close distances. Also required for operating motor vehicles and/or heavy equipment, and determining accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of work.
• Environmental Conditions: Subject to protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Subject to noise sufficient to cause workers to shout to be heard above ambient noise levels.
• Hazards: Includes proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, or exposure to chemicals.
