About the role
The Warehouse Clerk is responsible for label control, yard coordination, and administrative functions in support of the entire outbound (Shipping and Picking) operation. This role ensures smooth communication of issues to outbound supervisors and requires proficiency in Excel and computer literacy.
Responsibilities
- Label Control: Prepare, distribute, and reprint all labels for carton/pallet pickers daily. Maintain consistent label flow to support safe, accurate, and productive picking. Track and document all labels issued.
- Yard Coordination: Use the Y/WMS system to communicate outbound pulls and plugs to yard drivers. Assist supervisors in ensuring trailers are properly chocked and green-lighted before movement or loading.
- Administrative Functions:
- Complete computer data entry for shipments.
- Issue seals to loaders and verify information (e.g., seal number, trailer number, store number) to prepare Bills of Lading (BOLs).
- Schedule LTL carriers for pickup (site-specific).
- Print work assignments for replenishment drivers.
- Document and file all outbound-related paperwork neatly.
- Multitask with a high sense of urgency.
- Assist supervisors with compiling and tracking downtime sheets.
- Maintain professional communication with management, peers, customers, and visitors.
- Safety, Sanitation, Security:
- Maintain a clean, neat, and orderly work area.
- Assist in warehouse security and ensure seals/sensitive documents are secured.
- Distribute and collect tools/equipment (e.g., RF guns, bolt cutters) and report issues promptly.
- Conduct operations safely and in accordance with OSHA and MSDS standards.
- Other Duties:
- Safe use of powered equipment, RF scanners, computers, and printers.
- Follow company policies, guidelines, and ISO procedures.
- Work in varied environmental conditions (e.g., heat, cold, humidity, dust).
- Perform heavy lifting (over 25 pounds) and repetitive motions (walking, climbing, carrying, bending, stretching, etc.).
- Assist in other operational areas as needed.
- Work overtime as required by business needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- 1–3 years of experience in inventory control or warehousing administration.
- Ability to work in unregulated warehouse temperatures (mild to moderate).
Skills
- Computer Skills: Intermediate proficiency, including RF scanners and MS Office applications.
- Language Skills: English (reading, writing, verbal).
- Mathematical Skills: Basic to intermediate (e.g., verifying quantities, counting inventory).
- Other:
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Adaptability to fast-paced environments.
- Effective communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in a warehouse/logistics/distribution environment.
- 1–2 years of experience with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS).
Physical Demands
- Occasional bending; frequent walking and standing; constant sitting.
- Ability to lift/carry and push/pull 11–20 pounds.
- Reach above shoulder, squat, or kneel.
Work Environment
Exposure to low to moderate noise levels; rare exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or toxic/caustic chemicals.
