About the Role
This position supports Ryder’s Continuous Improvement culture by applying continuous improvement methods to new and existing operations. The Lead Engineer will identify, lead, and drive change through data-driven CI, Engineering, and Automation efforts to enhance safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. This role interfaces with employees at all levels and may manage CI resources, reporting to the CI Manager/Sr. CI Manager while closely aligning with a General Manager or Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
- Collect data and perform statistical analysis.
- Map and document processes; identify gaps and implement improvements.
- Develop and execute a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers.
- Lead high-impact CI projects to improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
- Assess CI initiatives and recommend future activities.
- Support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs, go-live, and steady-state certifications.
- Identify and support Automation projects.
- Interact regularly with account management and/or customers.
- Demonstrate expertise in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards; coach employees on CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
- Apply engineering methodologies (e.g., labor standards, layouts, data analysis, resource modeling) to optimize distribution and transportation operations.
- May supervise CI engineering and quality professionals, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
- Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events (A3 charter creation, pre-work, execution, follow-up).
- Coach process owners on Lean methods for operational excellence.
- Provide regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.
- Make inventory and supply chain strategy recommendations.
- Design, implement, monitor, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) based on company/industry standards.
- Implement and monitor a standardized corrective action system.
- Support regulatory compliance and certification requirements.
- Perform Quality Assurance functions for start-ups or expansions.
- Perform other assigned duties.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain with seven (7) or more years of related experience in Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing; or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five (5) years of related experience (if MBA, undergraduate degree must be in Engineering).
- Seven (7) or more years of experience in Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing.
- Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
- Intermediate data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX) skills preferred.
- Proficiency in developing and managing: Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S/Workplace Organization (Intermediate level required).
- Advanced understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics).
- Advanced knowledge of warehouse design tools (e.g., CAD, Slot3D), Predetermined Motion and Time Systems (e.g., MOST), Warehouse Management Systems (e.g., Manhattan Scale), and Labor Management Systems preferred.
- Advanced knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temp control), layout/design, and Lean methods.
- Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation (e.g., PIT applications, racking, conveyor/sortation, AS/RS).
- Knowledge of Dedicated Services, Managed Transportation Networks, and equipment types (dry van, temperature control, flatbed, specialized).
- Advanced proficiency in Transportation Design Tools (e.g., JDA, Appian), Network Design Tools (e.g., Llamasoft), Transportation Management Systems (e.g., JDA, OTM), and Mapping Software (e.g., Tableau) preferred.
- Lean Six Sigma certification required; cPMP, ISO/QMS, APICS, or Supply Chain Logistics Certification preferred.
Pay
Salaried position with a pay range of $105,000 – $115,000. Eligibility for annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plans may apply based on role level/type.
