This position supports Ryder’s Continuous Improvement culture by applying continuous improvement methods to new and existing operations. The Lead Engineer will identify, lead, and drive change through data-driven CI, Engineering, and Automation efforts to deliver higher performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth.

Responsibilities

  • Collects data and performs statistical analysis.
  • Maps and documents processes.
  • Independently identifies process gaps; recommends and implements process improvements.
  • Develops and executes a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers (transformation plan development and execution).
  • Drives process improvement activities to achieve tangible improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Manages and completes high-impact CI projects that lead to improved business results.
  • Assesses CI initiatives and provides input and recommendations on future activities.
  • Supports start-ups, retrofits, and expansions including pricing inputs, go-live, and steady-state certifications.
  • Identifies and supports Automation projects.
  • Regularly interacts with account management and/or customers.
  • Demonstrates competency in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards; coaches employees in CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
  • Applies engineering methodologies/tools such as product slotting, labor standards (time studies), layouts, flow optimization, data profiling, and resource modeling.
  • May supervise continuous improvement engineering and quality professionals; participates in employment decisions (hire, coach) and manages performance with guidance.
  • Facilitates and executes Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events (A3 charter creation, pre-work, delivery, follow-up, and sustainment).
  • Coaches process owners on using Lean methods to achieve operational excellence.
  • Provides regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.
  • Makes inventory and/or supply chain strategy recommendations.
  • Designs, implements, monitors, and maintains the Quality Management System (QMS) based on company and/or industry standards.
  • Implements and monitors a standardized corrective action system.
  • Supports regulatory compliance and certification requirements.
  • Performs Quality Assurance functions for start-ups or expansions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and seven (7) or more years of related work experience in Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing; or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management and five (5) years of related experience (if MBA, undergraduate degree must be in Engineering).
  • Seven (7) or more years of experience in Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing.
  • Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Intermediate-level data visualization (Power BI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Intermediate proficiency in developing and managing: Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and 5S/Workplace Organization.
  • Advanced understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics).
  • Advanced knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temp control), warehouse layout/design, and Lean methods.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types (e.g., powered industrial truck applications, racking, storage solutions, packaging equipment, conveyor/sortation, AS/RS).
  • Knowledge of Dedicated Services, Managed Transportation Networks, and equipment types (dry van, temperature control, flatbed, specialized equipment).
  • Advanced proficiency in Transportation Design Tools (JDA, Appian), Network Design Tools (Llamasoft), Transportation Management Systems (JDA, OTM), and Mapping Software (Tableau).
  • Lean Six Sigma certification required.
  • cPMP or ISO/QMS certification preferred.
  • APICS and/or Supply Chain Logistics Certification preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in warehouse design tools (CAD, e.g., AutoCAD; slotting, e.g., Slot3D; Predetermined Motion and Time Systems, e.g., MOST; Warehouse Management Systems, e.g., Manhattan Scale; Labor Management Systems).

Pay

Salaried position with a pay range of $110,000 – $115,000. Eligible for annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on level and type.
