Warehouse Lead Industrial Engineer

About the Role

This position supports Ryder’s Continuous Improvement culture by applying continuous improvement methods to new and existing operations. The Lead Engineer will identify, lead, and drive change through data-driven CI, Engineering, and Automation efforts to enhance performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. This role interfaces with employees at all levels and may manage CI resources while reporting to the CI Manager/Sr. CI Manager.

Responsibilities

• Collect data and perform statistical analysis.
• Map and document processes; identify gaps and implement process improvements.
• Develop and execute a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers (transformation plan development and execution).
• Lead high-impact CI projects to improve business metrics (safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development).
• Assess CI initiatives and recommend future activities.
• Support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs, go-live, and steady-state certifications.
• Identify and support Automation projects.
• Regularly interact with account management and/or customers.
• Demonstrate expertise in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards; coach employees on CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
• Apply engineering methodologies/tools such as labor standards (time studies), layouts, flow optimization, data profiling, and resource modeling.
• May supervise continuous improvement engineering and quality professionals; participate in employment decisions (hiring, coaching) and manage performance.
• Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps & Kaizen Events (A3 charter creation, pre-work, Kaizen week delivery, follow-up, and sustainment).
• Coach process owners on Lean methods for operational excellence.
• Provide regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.
• Make inventory and/or supply chain strategy recommendations.
• Design, implement, monitor, and maintain the Quality Management System (QMS) based on company/industry standards.
• Implement and monitor a standardized corrective action system.
• Support regulatory compliance and certification requirements.
• Perform Quality Assurance functions for start-ups or expansions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain with seven (7) or more years of related work experience in Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing; or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five (5) years of related experience (if MBA, undergraduate degree must be in Engineering).
• Seven (7) or more years of experience in Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing.
• Expert-level proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
• Intermediate data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
• Proficiency in developing and managing: Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA), Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S/Workplace Organization (Intermediate).
• Advanced understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics).
• Advanced knowledge of warehouse design tools (e.g., CAD like AutoCAD; slotting tools like Slot3D; Predetermined Motion and Time Systems like MOST; Warehouse Management Systems like Manhattan Scale; Labor Management Systems).
• Advanced knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temp control), warehouse layout/design, and Lean methods.
• Advanced knowledge of material handling solutions and automation (e.g., powered industrial trucks, racking/storage solutions, packaging equipment, conveyor/sortation, AS/RS).
• Advanced knowledge of Dedicated Services, Managed Transportation Networks, and equipment types (dry van, temperature control, flatbed, specialized equipment).
• Advanced proficiency in Transportation Design Tools (e.g., JDA, Appian), Network Design Tools (e.g., Llamasoft), Transportation Management Systems (e.g., JDA, OTM), and Mapping Software (e.g., Tableau).
• Lean Six Sigma certification (Required).
• cPMP, ISO/QMS certification (Preferred).
• American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) and/or Supply Chain Logistics Certification (Preferred).

Pay

Salaried position with a minimum pay range of $105,000 and a maximum pay range of $115,000. Eligible for annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan based on role level/type.
