Warehouse Lead Industrial Engineer

About the Role

This position supports Ryder’s Continuous Improvement culture by applying continuous improvement methods to new and existing operations. The Lead Engineer will identify, lead, and drive change through data-driven CI, Engineering, and Automation efforts to enhance performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. This role interfaces with employees at all levels and may manage CI resources while reporting to the CI Manager/Sr. CI Manager.

Responsibilities

• Collects data and performs statistical analysis.
• Maps and documents processes; identifies process gaps and implements improvements.
• Develops and executes continuous improvement plans to drive value for customers.
• Manages and completes high-impact CI projects to improve business metrics (safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development).
• Assesses CI initiatives and recommends future activities.
• Supports start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs, go-live, and steady-state certifications.
• Identifies and supports Automation projects.
• Regularly interacts with account management and/or customers.
• Demonstrates expertise in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards; coaches employees on CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
• Applies engineering methodologies (e.g., labor standards, layouts, data analysis, resource modeling) to optimize distribution and transportation operations.
• May supervise CI engineering and quality professionals, including hiring, coaching, and performance management.
• Facilitates and executes Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events (A3 charter creation, pre-work, delivery, and sustainment).
• Coaches process owners on Lean methods for operational excellence.
• Provides regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.
• Makes recommendations on Inventory and Supply Chain strategies.
• Designs, implements, monitors, and maintains the Quality Management System (QMS) based on company/industry standards.
• Implements and monitors a standardized corrective action system.
• Supports regulatory compliance and certification requirements.
• Performs Quality Assurance functions for start-ups or expansions.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain with seven (7) or more years of related experience in Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing; or Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five (5) years of related experience (if MBA, undergraduate degree must be in Engineering).
• Seven (7) or more years of experience in Warehousing & Transportation and/or Manufacturing.
• Expert proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio).
• Intermediate data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX) skills preferred.
• Proficiency in Lean tools: Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, Management Accountability Systems, PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, 5S/Workplace Organization.
• Advanced understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics).
• Advanced knowledge of warehouse design tools (e.g., CAD, Slot3D, MOST, Warehouse Management Systems, Labor Management Systems) preferred.
• Advanced knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, warehouse types (ambient, temp control), warehouse layout/design, and Lean methods.
• Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation (e.g., PIT applications, racking, conveyor/sortation, AS/RS).
• Knowledge of Dedicated Services, Managed Transportation Networks, and equipment types (dry van, temperature control, flatbed).
• Advanced proficiency in Transportation Design Tools (JDA, Appian), Network Design Tools (Llamasoft), Transportation Management Systems (JDA, OTM), and Mapping Software (Tableau) preferred.
• Lean Six Sigma certification required; cPMP, ISO/QMS, APICS, or Supply Chain Logistics Certification preferred.
• No travel required.

Pay

Salaried position with a pay range of $105,000 – $115,000. Eligibility for annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan may apply.
