About the role
Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, manages and is responsible for all administrative, security, safety, welfare, and programmatic missions/activities for Broad River Correctional Institution. Ensures that all inmates assigned to this level III facility are secured and held in custody until released by proper authority. Ensures the safety of all assigned employees.
Responsibilities
- Plans and implements programs for the inmates assigned to the institution.
- Responds to and coordinates efforts relating to disturbances within the institution.
- Assigned an emergency vehicle to immediately respond to and coordinate efforts relating to disturbances/emergencies within the institution.
- Ensures that institutional operations and programs are conducted in accordance with state laws, SCDC policy and good management practices; and that these functions are carried out in a cost-effective manner.
- On call twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
- Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC basic training upon hire.
Requirements
State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements: A bachelor's degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
SCDC Minimum Requirements: A high school diploma and twelve (12) years of experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, which include six (6) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment. A bachelor's degree may substitute for 4 years of overall experience. Associate degree may substitute for 2 years of overall experience. No substitutions for supervisory experience. Must be certified by the SCDC Training Academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position.
