About the role

The position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and SEIU-73. Cook County will consider internal applicants first before external applicants.

Responsibilities

  • Performs receptionist activities, greets and directs patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
  • Checks visitor’s passes, receives, places, and transfers telephone calls, and communicates messages accurately and timely.
  • Notifies Admissions Office of admissions and transfers, remains calm during emergencies, and establishes good rapport with staff and visitors.
  • Maintains appropriate level of forms, materials, and supplies, and prepares patient charts for Medical Records.
  • Communicates with courtesy, notifies appropriate personnel of arrivals, and schedules outpatient appointments.
  • Completes and organizes information on admissions, transfers, and discharge forms, conducts walking rounds, and conducts follow-ups.
  • Enters discharges, verifies census, and performs routine computer tasks.
  • Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights, ensures privacy and confidentiality, and treats patients and families with respect.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • One (1) year of clerical experience.
  • Basic computer skills.

Qualifications

  • Patient care experience preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, prompt emergency response skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical and organizational skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, conflict management/resolution skills, attention to detail, accuracy and precision.
  • Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and stressful environment, make appropriate and timely decisions, adhere to department policies and standards, and follow HIPAA standards.
