About the role
The position is covered by the collective bargaining agreement between Cook County and SEIU-73. Cook County will consider internal applicants first before external applicants.
Responsibilities
- Performs receptionist activities, greets and directs patients, visitors, and hospital personnel.
- Checks visitor’s passes, receives, places, and transfers telephone calls, and communicates messages accurately and timely.
- Notifies Admissions Office of admissions and transfers, remains calm during emergencies, and establishes good rapport with staff and visitors.
- Maintains appropriate level of forms, materials, and supplies, and prepares patient charts for Medical Records.
- Communicates with courtesy, notifies appropriate personnel of arrivals, and schedules outpatient appointments.
- Completes and organizes information on admissions, transfers, and discharge forms, conducts walking rounds, and conducts follow-ups.
- Enters discharges, verifies census, and performs routine computer tasks.
- Demonstrates awareness of patient/family rights, ensures privacy and confidentiality, and treats patients and families with respect.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- One (1) year of clerical experience.
- Basic computer skills.
Qualifications
- Patient care experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Strong interpersonal skills, prompt emergency response skills, excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Analytical and organizational skills, problem-solving, critical thinking, conflict management/resolution skills, attention to detail, accuracy and precision.
- Able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced and stressful environment, make appropriate and timely decisions, adhere to department policies and standards, and follow HIPAA standards.
