About the Role

We are seeking a detail-oriented and equity-centered Recruiter to coordinate and execute recruitment activities for both staff and volunteer roles. This role plays a key part in ensuring the organization attracts diverse, mission-aligned talent while maintaining fair, inclusive, and efficient hiring processes. The Recruiter will collaborate closely with the Human Resources Manager, Director of Human Resources, and hiring managers to support sourcing, screening, candidate engagement, and onboarding coordination. This is a non-paid, volunteer position.

Responsibilities

Talent Sourcing & Outreach

  • Source candidates for staff and volunteer roles using job boards, community networks, partnerships, and referrals.
  • Support outreach to diverse and mission-aligned talent pools.
  • Promote the organization’s mission, values, and opportunities to potential candidates.

Recruitment Coordination & Screening

  • Review applications and conduct initial candidate screenings, as appropriate.
  • Coordinate interview scheduling and communication with candidates and hiring teams.
  • Support equitable and consistent screening processes in alignment with organizational guidelines.

Candidate Experience & Communication

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for candidates throughout the recruitment process.
  • Provide timely updates, communication, and follow-up.
  • Ensure a respectful, inclusive, and transparent candidate experience.

Hiring Process Support

  • Partner with the Human Resources Manager to support background checks, references, and onboarding coordination.
  • Ensure recruitment documentation is complete, accurate, and properly maintained.
  • Support compliance with recruitment-related policies and procedures.

Collaboration & Continuous Improvement

  • Collaborate with HR leadership and hiring managers to understand staffing needs and role requirements.
  • Track recruitment metrics such as time-to-fill and candidate pipeline status.
  • Identify opportunities to improve recruitment processes, outreach strategies, and candidate engagement.

Additional duties and responsibilities may be assigned as organizational needs evolve.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communications, Psychology, Social Sciences, or a closely related field.
  • Preferred: Training or coursework in recruitment, talent acquisition, or human resources.
  • Preferred certifications: SHRM Talent Acquisition Specialty Credential or Professional Recruiter Certification (PRC) or equivalent.

Experience & Skills

  • Experience supporting or coordinating recruitment, hiring, or talent acquisition activities.
  • Familiarity with sourcing techniques, candidate screening, and interview coordination.
  • Understanding of equitable and inclusive hiring practices, or willingness to learn.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple candidates and roles simultaneously.
  • Experience working with nonprofit, volunteer-driven, or mission-focused organizations preferred.
  • Commitment to confidentiality and respectful handling of candidate information.
  • Ability to follow established hiring procedures and escalate concerns appropriately.

This is a non-paid, volunteer role. Individuals serving in this capacity are not employees of the organization and do not receive financial compensation or employment benefits. Time commitment expectations and responsibilities will be mutually agreed upon in writing.
