Mentor A Promise (MAP) is a youth-centered nonprofit dedicated to supporting students ages 5–18 experiencing housing instability in New York City. Through mentorship, social-emotional learning, academic enrichment, and creative expression, we create safe, consistent, and empowering spaces for young people to grow, thrive, and succeed. Role Overview
We are seeking a Recruiter to lead MAP's efforts in attracting and interviewing dedicated volunteers. This role will focus on recruitment outreach and candidate screening while ensuring all HR processes are aligned with MAP's mission and culture. The ideal candidate has strong interpersonal skills, a passion for people-centered work, and experience supporting volunteer-driven organizations.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement recruitment strategies to attract diverse volunteers
- Post and manage job descriptions across platforms (Idealist, LinkedIn, and similar outlets)
- Screen applications, coordinate interviews, and support selection processes
- Build relationships with colleges, universities, and community organizations to expand outreach
Requirements
- Experience in recruitment
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to engage and build relationships with diverse groups of people
- Familiarity with recruitment tools and volunteer platforms
- Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, Calendar, Gmail)
- Commitment to MAP's mission and values
Preferred Skills
- Experience managing or supporting volunteer programs in nonprofits
- Knowledge of HR compliance best practices
- Familiarity with CRM or volunteer management systems
