The Jewish Relief Agency (JRA) seeks a Volunteer Programs Coordinator to enhance and expand its volunteer program, supporting the organization’s mission of community service through food distribution and other charitable activities across Greater Philadelphia.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Director of Community Engagement & Volunteer Programs to implement individual and group volunteer recruitment and outreach strategies.
- Write, send, and respond to targeted outreach emails to external organizations regarding volunteer programs.
- Manage all volunteer postings on partner sites and identify additional platforms for listings.
- Monitor the volunteering@jewishrelief.org inbox and voicemail, handling a high volume of communications with individuals and groups interested in volunteering.
- Teach volunteers how to register using VolunteerLocal and assist those unable to use the technology.
- Monitor VolunteerLocal sign‑up notifications, respond to comments, and troubleshoot errors.
- Support the Director in managing the group registration process and maintain clean volunteer data by merging duplicate profiles.
- Recruit, train, and oversee volunteers for distribution administrative tasks, including preparing route packets and supervising onsite processes.
- Recruit administrative volunteers for Client Services and Development as needed.
- Assist in coordinating the Route Owner Program by recruiting and orienting new Route Owners and confirming monthly participation via email, calls, or texts.
- Collaborate with the Client Services Team to address Route Owner questions, concerns, or client needs.
- Present JRA’s volunteer opportunities at synagogues, schools, community organizations, and events as assigned.
- Co‑create and update volunteer materials, and assist with volunteer appreciation and recognition for Yellow Cappers, Route Owners, and general volunteers.
- Coordinate the B’nai Mitzvah and Junior Yellow Capper program, including recruitment, orientations, project development, celebration events, and data collection.
- Partner with community organizations to provide volunteer opportunities for individuals with physical, intellectual, developmental disabilities, and mental illness, ensuring accessible registration and appropriate assignments.
- Monitor and resolve volunteer concerns according to established procedures and core values; report concerns to the Director.
- Co‑create volunteer orientation videos and write a volunteer feature article for JRA’s monthly newsletter, Unboxed.
- Perform warehouse responsibilities approximately five days per month, including monthly food distribution on a Sunday, volunteer check‑in, task assignment, orientations, loading food boxes, and delivering supplies as needed.
- Flexibly take on additional assignments based on organizational needs.
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience in volunteer coordination, community engagement, nonprofit work, events, customer service, or a related field (preferred).
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
- Strong organizational and time‑management abilities, capable of handling multiple priorities.
- Experience recruiting, coordinating, and engaging volunteers (preferred).
- Familiarity with volunteer management, CRM, email marketing, or database platforms (preferred).
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Google Workspace; experience with email and direct‑mail marketing campaigns (preferred).
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 pounds, reliable vehicle access, and a valid driver’s license.
