About the role

Maryville Academy is seeking volunteers to support their mission of helping children and families reach their fullest potential. Volunteers work in various service areas including Behavioral Health, Early Childhood, Educational Services, Family Services, Jóvenes Adelante, and Residential Services.

Responsibilities

• Assist in providing structure, stability, and guidance to youth.
• Participate in team efforts to promote the well-being and individual growth of youth.
• Gain valuable experience working with youth.
• Report to the supervisor upon arrival to receive updates and document arrival and departure.
• Follow staff directives and assist during group-time and individual activities.
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards.
• Communicate openly with supervisors and team members.
• Focus on tutoring or mentoring based on the role.
• Participate in performance quality improvement initiatives.

Requirements

• Minimum 21 years of age.
• Complete Volunteer Packet: Application Form, Medical Exam, Drug Screen, TB Test, Confidentiality Agreement, Background Check, Fingerprinting, Authorization to Obtain Criminal Convictions Report and Reference Check.
• Completed 2 weeks after last COVID vaccine.
• Attend Protecting God's Children Workshop and DCFS Mandated Reporter training online.
• Attend an orientation session/tour.
• Have a positive, supportive, and patient attitude.
• Possess professional communication skills.
• Be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
• Have visual, hearing, and learning capabilities sufficient to perform essential functions.
