About the role

This volunteer opportunity is provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit that creates social change through pro bono connections. Polaris, Inc. is seeking a Volunteer Grant Writer to develop grant applications for The Iceberg, a six‑episode investigative docu‑series that examines American healthcare through the eyes of employers, providers, patients, and institutions to understand how the system evolved, its impact on everyone involved, and what it would take to build a system that puts people first.

The organization has already prepared a comprehensive grant‑writer onboarding packet that contains the project story, approved messaging, key statistics, funding strategy, budget, fiscal sponsorship information, funder categories, and editorial guardrails, plus a list of identified grant opportunities.

Polaris, Inc.’s mission is to be a nonprofit tech company that provides the platform for a new way to organize and build: helping people discover their purpose, connecting them with the resources to fulfill it, and supporting the creation of organizations that benefit people and communities.

Responsibilities

  • Use the provided onboarding packet and list of grant opportunities to develop strong, tailored grant applications.
  • Complete and submit grant proposals on behalf of Polaris and The Iceberg.
  • Ensure each application aligns with the approved messaging, budget, fiscal sponsorship details, and editorial guardrails.
  • Track submissions and follow up as needed to maximize funding potential.
