About the role

Sigma Public Education and Research (SPEAR) Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit advancing social, civic, cultural, economic, and educational opportunities for marginalized and underserved youth, families, and communities. The Foundation seeks a passionate Volunteer Grant Writer to support grant research, proposal development, and funding strategy as it diversifies revenue and expands community impact.

Responsibilities

  • Identify aligned funding opportunities and maintain the grant pipeline.
  • Develop competitive grant proposals and supporting narratives.
  • Collaborate with Foundation leaders to ensure applications reflect strong program, financial, and impact information.
  • Interpret grant budgets, restricted funding, reporting requirements, and measurable outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least five years of grant-writing or grant-development experience.
  • Demonstrated success developing competitive grant proposals and securing external funding.
  • Strong writing, research, organization, and deadline-management skills.
  • Experience translating program information, community needs, and outcomes into compelling grant narratives.
  • Working knowledge of grant budgets, restricted funding, reporting requirements, and measurable outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a volunteer-led nonprofit environment.

Commitment

  • Volunteer approximately 2–5 hours per week.
  • Additional availability during grant application and award cycles.
