As our Volunteer & Community Engagement Coordinator, you'll help create an exceptional volunteer experience while directly impacting the lives of individuals facing food insecurity and hardship throughout Kansas City. Responsibilities

  • Recruit, onboard, schedule, and retain volunteers through community outreach, networking, presentations, and recruitment events.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for volunteers by responding promptly to inquiries and maintaining positive relationships throughout their volunteer experience.
  • Coordinate weekly volunteer schedules and assignments, including confirming Saturday service opportunities and recruiting additional volunteers as needed.
  • Maintain accurate volunteer records, contact information, attendance, and required documentation.
  • Plan and implement volunteer appreciation efforts, including thank-you emails, letters, and recognition initiatives.
  • Promote volunteer opportunities through approved communication channels and community partnerships.
  • Represent Lazarus Ministries KC professionally within the community, serving as an ambassador for the organization's mission and programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, churches, businesses, schools, universities, civic groups, and corporate volunteer partners to expand volunteer engagement.
  • Coordinate volunteer opportunities that support meal services, pantry operations, community programs, special events, and fundraising activities.
  • Support community engagement initiatives, including volunteer fairs, workshops, tours, outreach events, and other opportunities that increase awareness of Lazarus Ministries KC.
  • Prepare reports, correspondence, and other administrative materials related to volunteer engagement and support the Executive Director with special projects as assigned.
  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and retain volunteers.
  • Track volunteer participation, attendance, and service hours.

Requirements

  • Associate degree preferred; equivalent experience considered.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in volunteer management, nonprofit administration, office administration, customer service, hospitality, or event coordination.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Professional demeanor.
  • Comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel).
  • Ability to learn new software quickly.
  • Experience using Constant Contact or similar email marketing platforms preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous nonprofit experience.
  • Volunteer management experience.
  • Experience coordinating community outreach.
  • Experience with food pantries or hunger relief organizations.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (preferred but not required).

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position requiring both remote and onsite work. The position requires regular interaction with volunteers, donors, staff, board members, and community partners in a nonprofit ministry setting. Mandatory onsite attendance is required every Saturday and during organizational events, meetings, and other activities as directed by the Executive Director.
