Volunteer Board Member: Development, Marketing & Communications - Donor Acquisition & Partnerships

Uganda Village Project (UVP) is a US-based 501(c)(3) and Ugandan NGO that has worked in rural Uganda since 2003. We currently operate in Iganga, Bugweri, and Kiryandongo districts, running community health programs that address gaps in access to care for underserved populations. Our work centers on two core programs. Through our Obstetric Fistula Surgery and Reintegration program, we support women who've suffered this devastating and often stigmatizing childbirth injury, connecting them with surgical treatment and helping them rebuild their lives afterward. Our Adolescent Reproductive Health program reaches thousands of young people each year with education and outreach designed to improve health outcomes and reduce stigma around reproductive health. UVP's programs are funded by organizations including the Fistula Foundation, the Bushrod H. Campbell and Adah F. Hall Charity Fund, UNFPA, and ACORD. We're a lean organization, with a small Uganda-based team leading day-to-day program delivery and an international board providing governance and strategic support. We're now looking to grow our board with people who bring relevant skills and a genuine commitment to our mission, and who want to play an active role in shaping the next chapter of UVP's work. , About Uganda Village Project Uganda Village Project is a U.S.-registered nonprofit that empowers underserved adolescents and women in rural Uganda by advancing access to sexual and reproductive health education and services. Our programs include obstetric fistula prevention, surgical repair and survivor reintegration, and adolescent reproductive health (ARH) programming delivered in schools and communities. We envision a future where all Ugandan adolescents and women thrive in supportive communities, with full access to physical, mental, reproductive, and sexual health resources. We are a small, grassroots organization where volunteer board members play a direct and meaningful role in our work. About The Role UVP is seeking a Board Member to join its Development & Communications Committee, which is led by an existing Committee Chair. The committee supports UVP's fundraising, donor relations, and external communications. Members contribute according to their skills and availability, with flexibility built in to accommodate the natural ebb and flow of volunteer bandwidth. There are no rigid role boundaries — what matters is that collectively the committee keeps UVP's fundraising and communications functioning and growing. This role has a specific focus on donor acquisition and external partnerships. UVP has a loyal but small donor base — almost entirely made up of people personally connected to board members. The email list has been shrinking. This role exists to help change that, by identifying new donor segments and building relationships with organizations that can help extend UVP’s reach. The committee works closely with the Executive Director and reports to the full Board of Directors. What The Committee Does Individual donor fundraising developing and executing fundraising campaigns and appeals, nurturing relationships with existing donors, and finding ways to grow a small but loyal donor baseGrant research identifying opportunities that align with UVP's mission and programsCommunications & social media maintaining a consistent external presence that keeps existing donors connected to the mission and presents a credible face to prospective supporters and partners What This Role Focuses On Within the broader committee remit, the Donor Acquisition & Partnerships member will focus primarily on New donor segments researching and identifying prospective donors beyond the board’s personal networks, including through affinity communities, diaspora networks, or workplace giving programsPartnership outreach identifying and cultivating relationships with corporate, faith-based, or community partners whose values align with UVP’s missionPeer-to-peer and referral fundraising helping develop mechanics that allow existing supporters to bring in new onesAcquisition lens on campaigns contributing to campaign planning with a focus on reaching first-time donors, not just retaining existing ones What We're Looking For Someone with genuine experience in one or more of the following areas who is willing to roll up their sleeves Business development, partnerships, or sponsorshipDonor acquisition or new market developmentCorporate social responsibility or cause marketingCommunity outreach or relationship-based fundraising A nonprofit background is welcome but not required — we’re open to candidates with corporate or private sector experience who are looking to apply their skills to a cause they care about. What matters most is the ability to build external relationships, think strategically about growth, and work independently within a small, committed team.
