Volunteer Assistant Coach - Cheerleading (Basketball)

About the role

The City of College Park seeks a dedicated Assistant Coach to support the head coach in managing the team's operations and providing comprehensive support to the young athletes.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all team activities, supervise games and training sessions
• Teach fundamental skills of the sport
• Promote values of responsibility and commitment, emphasizing academics
• Encourage parent involvement as volunteers
• Create a safe and engaging environment for children
• Adhere to association and league rules, policies, and procedures
• Ensure player welfare above winning
• Attend and participate in association and league meetings, classes, tryouts, and functions
• Build and maintain a positive team environment
• Organize travel arrangements, including transport, accommodation, and meals
• Schedule and supervise training sessions and individual workouts
• Prepare and maintain training equipment and facilities
• Recruit students for the program
• Evaluate team performance and maintain records
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach

Requirements

• Passion for youth development
• Ability to remain calm under pressure and maintain patient, understanding demeanor
• Effective working relationships with colleagues and the public
• Proven ability to analyze and prioritize work processes
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Experience in diverse community interactions and relationship building
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite and understanding of organizational structures
• Extensive availability for hours and weekends

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous youth coaching or instructional experience preferred
• Complete required training and obtain coach certification
• First Aid and/or CPR certification preferred
