Volunteer Assistant Coach - Basketball

About the role

The position supports the head coach in all areas of team management and assists with administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

• Oversee all team activities, supervise games and training sessions
• Teach young athletes the fundamentals of the sport
• Promote values of responsibility and commitment, emphasize academics
• Encourage parent involvement as volunteers
• Create a safe and fun environment for children
• Follow association and league rules, policies, and procedures
• Put player well-being above winning
• Attend association and league meetings, classes, tryouts, and functions
• Build a positive team environment
• Organize travel arrangements, including transport, accommodation, and meals
• Facilitate and supervise training sessions and individual workouts
• Organize sports events and schedule practice sessions
• Prepare and maintain training equipment and facilities
• Aid in student recruitment
• Maintain records of students, training sessions, games, performance statistics, and equipment
• Perform other duties as assigned by the head coach

Requirements

• Passion for youth development
• Ability to remain calm in stressful situations; patience and understanding
• Effective working relationships with other employees
• Tact and courtesy in dealing with the public
• Analytical and evaluative skills
• Effective working relationships and teamwork
• Keyboarding and computer proficiency
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Previous youth coaching or instructional experience preferred
• Complete required training and obtain coach certification
• First Aid and/or CPR certification preferred
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Experience in diverse community communication and relationship building
• Proficiency in MS Office Suite
• Extensive hours and weekend availability required
