About the role
This internship is based in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, offering an immersive experience in conservation and sustainable community development. It includes all food, accommodation, airport pickup, orientation, and project-related activities. Costs include all expenses except flights, travel insurance, visas, and vaccinations.
Responsibilities
- Monitor blue-headed macaw behavior and educate tourists on responsible bird watching
- Conduct avian monitoring in different stages of forest regeneration
- Set up and identify butterflies in different stages of forest regeneration
- Study amphibian and reptile behavior in regenerating forest
- Use camera traps to capture images of mammals in regenerating forest
- Work with local communities to create sustainable income through biogardens, agroforestry, and other initiatives
Requirements
- Passionate about conservation and sustainable development
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Basic computer literacy
- Fluency in Spanish (essential), English (advantageous)
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Conservation, or related field
- Experience in fieldwork and data collection
- Interest in tropical ecosystems and conservation

Pay
$7,200 USD
Schedule
The internship lasts 12 weeks, divided into a 10-week training phase, 2 weeks in Cusco, and a 12-week work placement in the rainforest. Daily routines are adapted to the local schedule, starting early to maximize daylight hours.
