Location: San Francisco, CA – open to remote (must work PST or MST hours)
Employment Type: Temporary, approximately 6 months
Schedule: 40 hours/week
Pay: $195.00 per hour, depending on geographic location, experience, and qualifications
About the role
Design visual assets for educational videos — diagrams, motion graphics, animations, and on-screen text treatments that clarify technical or abstract concepts.
- Partner with producers, writers, and subject matter experts to turn technical topics into clear, accurate visuals
- Develop and maintain a visual language and design system for educational content across video, in-product guidance, and written materials
- Build templates, motion presets, and reusable components for consistent, efficient content production
- Storyboard and previsualize graphics/animation sequences ahead of production
- Design thumbnails, badges, and other recognition markers across the content library
- Contribute to web design/visual polish for the educational platform as needed
- Adapt educational content into social-ready assets
- Manage multiple video projects at once, often with fast turnaround times
Requirements
- Strong portfolio featuring explainer videos, motion graphics, infographics, or similar work that makes complex ideas visually clear (samples/portfolio required to be considered)
- Experience building or contributing to a visual design system or style guide
- Proficiency with design/motion tools such as Figma, After Effects, and Illustrator
- Strong eye for typography, color, layout, and motion
- Ability to translate technical/abstract concepts into intuitive visual metaphors
- Comfortable designing across formats (video, thumbnails, web, social) while maintaining a consistent system
- Self-directed, collaborative, and able to incorporate feedback from producers, writers, and engineers
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in edtech, instructional design, motion graphics/animation, or illustration
- Familiarity with AI/ML concepts
