About the Role
We're looking for a Visual Communications Designer to sit at the heart of our creative team. You'll design across the full stack of what an agency ships — brand systems, websites and landing pages, social, email, print collateral, sales tools, presentations, and campaign assets — for a mix of national, regional, and local brands.
This isn't a backfill. We're leveling up. You'll work directly with our Creative Director and our Account leads, and you'll have real room to build, propose, and influence how work gets made — not just execute a ticket someone else scoped. If you want to grow with a team that treats designers like partners, this is that seat.
You'd Be a Great Fit If You Were…
- The kind of designer who reads a brief, quietly opens three tools no one asked for, and figures it out.
- Equally comfortable in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign — and just as at home in Figma laying out a landing page.
- Genuinely curious about how a design actually performs once it hits the world — not just how it looks in the mockup.
- Someone who says "I can do that" first and figures out the how second — and delivers on it.
- Appreciative of honest feedback. Stay confident while also open and curious. A good sense of humor will come in handy as well!
- Thick-skinned about feedback. You know good creative gets better when smart people push on it, and you'd rather hear it straight than pretty.
- Digital-native, but you still respect the craft — kerning, hierarchy, grid, color, and the discipline it takes to make print land right.
- A builder, not a ticket-taker. You have opinions on brand, on UX, on how a page should flow — and you're not shy about sharing them.
- The person who thrives in a fast, candid, sometimes irreverent team where the work is serious but the people aren't always. (If you’re not having fun, maybe you’re doing it wrong… just sayin’!)
- Reliable when it counts — auto-client production month-in and month-out, big report layouts on deadline, presentations that have to look sharp for a client meeting tomorrow.
Responsibilities
Brand & Visual Design
- Design across digital, print, and experiential channels — social graphics, email, ads, direct mail, sales collateral, annual reports, presentations, event and environmental pieces.
- Extend and evolve existing client brand systems into fresh, on-brand executions that stay cohesive with their visual identity.
- Own recurring monthly production for our key accounts (including automotive) — the kind of work where efficiency, templating, and variable-data tooling actually matter.
Digital & Web
- Design websites, landing pages, and email templates with a real point of view on UX, user flow, and conversion — not just how the page looks.
- Partner with the team on wireframing, prototyping, and iterating on digital experiences based on performance data.
- Prep and hand off files cleanly for development, print vendors, and media placements.
Collaboration & Client Work
- Work shoulder-to-shoulder with our Creative Director, Account leads, and strategists to turn briefs into work worth signing off on.
- Participate in client presentations — walk clients through concepts, respond to feedback on the fly, and defend the choices worth defending.
- Contribute to bigger-picture creative and brand conversations. If you see a better way, we want to hear it.
Craft & Continuous Learning
- Stay current on design trends, tools, platforms, and best practices — and bring the good ones into how we work.
- Adopt and experiment with AI-assisted design tools where they actually make the work better or faster.
Requirements
Required
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Graphic Design, Visual Communications, Visual Arts, or a related field. Just wow us — we care more about the work than the diploma.
- 3+ years of graphic design experience, ideally in an agency or in-house marketing environment.
- Strong working proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite — Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
- Familiarity with Figma (or comparable tool like Sketch) for web and UI design.
- Strong portfolio showing range across digital and print — real client work preferred over spec pieces.
- Comfort learning and adapting to new software, platforms, and AI-assisted tools as our stack evolves.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to receive, process, and incorporate direct feedback.
Preferred (Not Required — But Definitely a Plus)
- Copywriting instincts or interest — headlines, subheads, short-form campaign copy, brand voice.
- Working knowledge of HTML/CSS or front-end fundamentals for hands-off collaboration with developers.
- Experience with variable-data design (e.g., Adobe data merge) for scaled monthly production.
- Print production experience — direct mail, large-format, environmental, packaging.
- Motion, video editing, or animation basics.
Skills
- Visual Communication: Translates ideas and strategy into visuals that land clearly and effectively — not just look nice.
- Technical Craft: Strong fundamentals in layout, typography, hierarchy, and color theory across mediums.
- Digital Fluency: Comfortable designing for web, mobile, and email with a working understanding of user flow.
- Project Ownership: Manages multiple projects at once, keeps quality high, and hits deadlines without needing to be chased.
- Collaboration: Works well with creative and account teams, brings ideas to the table, and makes the room better.
- Adaptability: Adjusts to client feedback, shifting priorities, and evolving briefs without losing the plot.
- Self-Direction: Figures things out. Reads the brief. Opens the tool. Ships the work. Asks smart questions when needed.
Benefits
- Competitive salary based on experience, with performance-based bonus opportunity.
- Full benefits package — health, dental, and vision insurance.
- 401(k) with company matching.
- Paid time off and paid holidays.
- Hybrid work schedule — flexibility built around real collaboration, not face-time-for-face-time's-sake.
- A seat on a small, high-trust team where your work is seen, your opinions land, and your growth is a real conversation, not a form.
- 60+ years of client relationships to design for — with the freedom of an independent, family-run shop.
