Visiting Assistant Professor - Electrical and Computer Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering within the College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering at the University at Albany, SUNY, is seeking applicants for a Visiting Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering for the 2026-2027 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for AY27-28.

About the Role

The successful candidate is expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in the computing area. Teaching load ranges from 2-6 courses per year, with fewer courses for those developing a research program and more for those with a teaching-only focus. Specific assignments will align with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. Faculty are also expected to provide service to the College and department, mentor students (including underserved and historically underrepresented groups), and participate in pipeline programs to enhance diversity. Applicants aiming to develop a research program must engage in research tied to their interests, with areas of particular interest including computer hardware, architecture, and programming.

Responsibilities

  • Teach classes in electrical and computer engineering.
  • If developing a research program: conduct research, submit proposals, and supervise graduate students.
  • Serve the ECE department, College of Nanotechnology, Science, and Engineering (CNSE), and UAlbany through participation in departmental meetings, student recruitment, and outreach activities.
  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, with a focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated teaching experience or strong potential for effectively teaching computer-focused ECE courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Commitment to student success, diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education.
  • If research-focused: demonstrated ability to define and carry out research in the candidate's specialization within electrical and computer engineering.
  • Ability to develop inclusive and equitable relationships within a diverse campus community.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in Electrical, Computer, or Electrical and Computer Engineering (or a closely related field) from an accredited institution by August 2026.
  • Demonstrated teaching experience or potential for effective teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • If research-focused: demonstrated potential for research in their field, including potential for obtaining external funding.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience as an instructor for computer-related courses in electrical and computer engineering, particularly in computer hardware, architecture, and programming.
  • If research-focused: publications in top-tier journals and conferences.
  • If research-focused: experience in applying for and/or obtaining research funding.

Working Environment

  • Personal office space provided.
  • If research-focused: lab space provided.
  • Teaching scheduled across campus facilities, including potential evening courses (after 5 pm on weekdays).
  • Online courses may be scheduled at the discretion of the department chair.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work to support events and community activities.
  • Travel within New York State and beyond may be required.

Pay

Salary commensurate with experience (Visiting Assistant Professor, A5).
