About the role

The DCU Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to a dynamic and impactful research project. The successful candidate will work within a vibrant research environment, contributing to cutting-edge research on media, democracy, and society. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career researcher to develop their skills and profile within a leading research institute.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct high-quality research within the remit of the Institute's projects, with a focus on media, democracy, and technology.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and analysis of research studies.
  • Prepare research findings for publication in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present at national and international conferences.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the Institute and with external partners on research activities.
  • Assist in the development of research proposals and funding applications.
  • Contribute to the dissemination of research outputs to academic, policy, and public audiences.
  • Participate in the intellectual life of the Institute, including seminars, workshops, and other events.
  • Mentor and support graduate students as appropriate.

Requirements

  • A PhD (or be near completion) in a relevant discipline such as Media Studies, Political Science, Sociology, Communication Studies, or a related field.
  • A strong research record appropriate to career stage, including publications in peer-reviewed outlets.
  • Demonstrated expertise in research methods relevant to the study of media, democracy, and society (e.g., quantitative and/or qualitative methods, content analysis, survey research, computational methods).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.

Qualifications

  • A primary degree (2.1 or higher) in a relevant discipline.
  • A completed PhD in a relevant field.

Skills

  • Proficiency in relevant software and tools for data analysis and research (e.g., SPSS, R, NVivo, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet project deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.

Pay

  • Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, in line with IUA Postdoctoral Researcher salary scales.

Schedule

  • This is a full-time, fixed-term position.
