About the role
The Institute of Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo) at DCU invites applications for a Research Assistant position to contribute to the work of the project "EUComMeet: Deliberative Spaces for Democracy". The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic and internationally recognised research team and will contribute to the management, coordination and implementation of the project’s research activities. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated early career researcher to gain experience in a large-scale, comparative EU-funded project that focuses on democratic innovations, citizen participation, and deliberation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the coordination and management of the project's research activities, including liaising with project partners.
- Contribute to the design and implementation of qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, including literature reviews, data collection, and data analysis.
- Support the organisation and facilitation of deliberative events and citizen engagement activities.
- Assist with the dissemination of research findings, including the preparation of reports, policy briefs, and academic publications.
- Contribute to the management of the project’s website and social media presence.
- Participate in project meetings and contribute to reporting requirements for the funder.
- Undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Principal Investigator.
Requirements
- A primary degree (Level 8 NFQ) in political science, sociology, communications, media studies, or a related discipline.
- Demonstrable interest in and knowledge of democratic theory, citizen participation, and/or deliberative democracy.
- Excellent organisational and project management skills with the ability to work to deadlines.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative research team.
- Proficiency in standard IT applications (e.g., Microsoft Office, online survey tools).
Qualifications
- A Master’s degree (Level 9 NFQ) in a relevant field is highly desirable.
- Experience with qualitative and/or quantitative research methods, including data collection and analysis.
- Familiarity with the Irish and/or European political and media landscape.
- Experience in project administration and coordination.
